Do you know about the World Sickle Cell Day? It is held every year on 19th June worldwide to spread the awareness of Sickle Cell Anaemia. Basically sickle cell anaemia effects almost 500000 new born babies. It is a disorder in which red blood cells are not in round shape but are shaped like sickle that hinders oxygen to be reached to different organs of the body. The disease can be fatal sometimes for children below the age of 5.

The child can suffer from following problems due to sickle cell blood cells:
1. breathlessness
2. fatigue and tiredness
3. swelling in hands, ribs and pelvis
4. yellowness of skin and eyes

Parents should consult a specialist as soon as they see such problems in their kids.

Its good to observe such health oriented days. They help in spreading awareness in the parents so that they can take precautionary measures to protect their children from this hazardous ailment.
