Can a good speaker be a good leader ?

There are duvided opinions about this...If we go back in history we see not many powerful leaders were good oraters vice versa....Hitler was a good orater but his speeches were written for him apparently by Henrich Himmler...Our own leaders from all parties speak most of the time out of context brewing hate as can be seen...
So, is it enough to be a good speaker to become a leader ?

Rarely the oratorical and leadership qualities will be seen in a man. But there are exceptions. Atal Bihari Bajpai is both a good speaker and Leader.Remember his speech in the UN? Fernandes was a good orator but not a good leader. Mahtma was a charismatic leader but a poor speaker. Martin Luther King Jr was both.

Yes thats true, it is only rarely that we get to see both the qualities in a person...Narendra Modi is a good ortaor and a good leader too since he has been a very successful CM of Gujrat for 3 terms ...But on the whole public speaking abilities dont necessarily make a person an able leader...

True. In my opinion, a person who leads by example can be a Leader even without skills in oratory.

This might be true but not all time. Our prime minister speak well but every decission taken by him with the help of sonia gandhi. He cannot lead India hence not a good leader.

Good speaker and it should be backed by performance, if speakers says whatever which is not backed by performance then everything is going to be a waste. Practical speech is what makes a great leader apart from it charismatic leadership, moustaches and smiles are best for brewing wonderful leaders.

Sadly, we have to see the things in real perspective. Lalus and Mayawatis are again going to come back to power and as you said we are left with a handful of ashes. Nothing more.

Fortunately for us, there are still enough people left in the country who recognise them for what they are and therefore these people remain restricted to their territories and not allow them to rule (read misrule) on the national front! Imagine if Mayawati came to power, all we would see everywhere is statues of elephants, Kanshiram and herself! :blink: :blink:

As for as myself is concerned, there is no necessity that good speaker is fit for a good leader. It would be better and an added advantage if a leader has good speaking/convincing skills.

There are mixed opinions abt MGRs leadership qualities from what I have read , but he was no doubt an effective leader ...We cannot expect perfection since every individual has some drawback which gets highlighted when he or she is in a position of power..

A good leader just needs the capacity to lead. Oratory and communication skills are helpful but not the only attributes of a good leader. Leader is one who can lead people in right direction.
