There always is a catch in such budgets especially when these are election years. They either increase revenue from back door or wait for next government to do the unpopular job. It has been a regular feature in last one decade.

A partcipant on a TV programme commented that passenger service usually gives loss whereas the goods traffic comepnsates by higher revenue. The passengers only bear the cost of travel whereas freight affects evryone. He further commented that unlike goods traffic, passengers are considered as voters and hence budget is made more pleasant to them.

I agree with this comment, because for the last few years, the kind of trains that have been initiated from Maharashtra (I am not eligible for commenting on other states) are more in favour of masses than of convenience and as a result, many towns and cities that are in dire need of refurbishment have been always ignored. Eg. Konkan railway is more help to people from Kerala than for people in Konkan originally for whom the railway line was built. Konkani people still have to struggle a lot to get home from Mumbai and other places of their work.

And the ruling party never leaves a stone unturned to term it as " people friendly budget." Pre-election Budgets" we're always like this and they will be like this forever. But one aspect of the budget, introduction of 76 new trains will be helpful to the common man.

Did any government that ruled this country ever care for common man? All the budgets are sugar coated bitter pills.
