Working for long hours in front of your computer can take a toll on your neck and back in the long run. I believe most of us on this platform spend their time writing articles. I urge each and everyone on this platform to take a 15 minutes break after every hour and perform these stretching exercises. And if you have any other easy exercises, never hesitate to reply, Thanks

It's not sitting before the computer for long time, but any one who has a sedentary life style, that is lacking physical activity will become the victims of many ailments like depression , stress and even heart related ailments. I for one will never sit before the computer for more than 15minutes at a stretch. I do both physical exercises and yoga everyday in the morning. In this way I keep ailments at bay.
My formula is different. I remain on the computer for half an hour and then take a break. Half an hour laptop is not making me tired.

Taking a break is a very common way to refresh and rejuvenate the spent energies. One can sit and do some simple stretching exercise also.

When I write for PMJ for 2-3 hours, I prefer to go for a walk. It will make me refresh and free my body.

If that suits you, let it be so. I change my activities from art to articles. This suits me.
Yes it is true that we face problem by working for hours in front of the PC without any break. We should take a small interval and take a walk. We can have some water and talk for a while with others and then come back to work once again.

Children must be encouraged to read books more rather than to spend more time with computers. Book reading is of great advantage.

Of course book reading is a good habit. In fact one of my friend has used this trick to stop the habit of computer addiction in his 12 year old daughter . This worked. The girl stopped going to the computer once for all.
Any profession has its own health related hazards so has freelancing but it applies to all computer users including computer professionals. Knowing certain precautions and applying them can keep one away from such problems up to a great extent. We all now about these precautions so there is no use repeating them here.

Of course. its the general awareness that matters. One need not do elaborate exercises. Just get up from the seat, turn your head.Look towards the open space . Do some quick blinks. As you said , bad effects are not restricted to freelancing computer works. Any continuous job, even if it's TV viewing will effect one's health.
Yes every job has its shortcomings but but being a freelancer you are free to choose the schedule according to your convenience.

I suggest you read the first post before commenting because it gives you an idea about what the thread intends to say. Your post here does not comment on the topic of thread in question and such practice is not encouraged here!
For every health problem inactivity is the main cause.the more you remain active the more healthy and fit you remain .Similarly for those working on the net it is essential to set up a certain routine - sometimes when you are in the middle of something it is not possible to leave and go away every hour but one can compensate by shutting off the system once the woek is done and take up some other activity.I feel making a list of what is required to be done is very helpful since you are constantly being reminded of it ...
I wonder if this thread is really on the issue that I am facing for several days and hence could not log in. I am now r3ecovering from acute pain in neck. But this was caused more by winter rain and cold wind that fogged me harsh. I don't know how much long hours on compter added to my pain but during these days whenever I tried to sit on computer, my pain became more uinbearable

Welcome, a hearty welcome. We all missed you and anxious too about your health. It was only after Sunil's clarification we heaved a sigh of relief.
Winter cold, rain along with long hours of sitting before the computer certainly have a role in causing pain in the neck.
I request you to have more rest in order to have a complete cure.
I wish you a speedy recovery.
