Well, Linux is surely virus free in compare of windows.. So its cool.

Only windows OS is the worse in handling those viruses.

I have been using Windows since 1998. Earlier when I wasn't using anti-virus as there wasn't net connection, there were viruses, but I was successful in removing them. However, even with continued Windows usage, there is no problem for me at all.

Abhi.. Even I am using windows and not facing any problem. Actually windows is most user friendly in compare to others.

@Mohan.. You are correct. Linux is not completely virus free. It is less popular so it is surely catching less attention of hackers. In windows OS it is totally reverse case. That is normal thing.. Good and bad both things may attract towards best thing..
Most of virus writers use Linux to write virus for Windows, as they work in virtualized environment, and apart from this Linux is not popular, Windows and now Mac also have viruses.

Best of the Firewalls and anti virus programmes cannot stop this ever spreading epidemic known as VIRUS. As the protections are growing so are the Viruses.
With the latest versions of windows that is Windows 8 plus some other specific internet precautions such as using standard account, using updated web browser, good internet practices, and safe search can save you from BSOD.

Yes, they look safe bet for the time being. But are they permanent safe shields ? Crime travel\s faster than the law

@Anand,
That's right. Windows is pretty much friendly and so more people get attracted to it. No doubt, it will come in the eyes of the bad men more.
Any OS is successful till a hazardous virus attacks it. Tell me if there is an OS which escaped from viruses.

Nothing no OS till to date, even popular mobile OS Android has been virus attacked, still we have to use and connect to virtual world.

As the fear of death hasn't stopped people from using airplanes, or any other vehicles, similarly the fear of virus attacks won't stop them from using the certain OS as well. On the contrary, the more virus attacks means more popularity of the system.

Mine favorite is Windows Defender, though, this AV got many awards, it has many false positives so one has to extremely careful about this also, nevertheless it is personal choice as most of AV gives excellent protection and it is also a better idea to vouch for the commercial version of this software as the update time differs in both versions.

No need to buy the full versions as from time to time there are some promotions from Avira for free version of three to six months, I shall let you know about this, whenever there will be such promotions.

Oh. that's a good news. So kind of you for the info.
Suppose, I downloaded Quick Heal Full protection (free), and I run the software. Will it alter my "Recovery" drive as I don't want to lose the "Recovery" files. Or it will just scan only those areas that I will select. I know it's sounding like a child query but really I don't have clue about it. Before I got married, my brother was taking care of everything, but now, it's down to me, this is the reason I am bothering you all with these types of questions. I don't have technical knowledge at all. Don't mind please!

Thanks
I do not think it will affect recovery drive as it will ask for permission to do this, recovery drive mean for rainy days if some one wants to install OS from the scratch. Many manufacturer create recovery drive and I do not think antivirus software would alter it anyway.
Now a days free anti-virus are uploaded in the PCs when you buy them. You can look for some good anti-virus CDs from internet. You will get better idea regarding this. Many brands are available in the market. It is difficult to write the best one.

I cannot understand your points, as with genuine copy of Windows OS you have free MS antivirus so why one should install the third party AV, perhaps you are talking abt. pirated copies as in there no such AV as it requires genuine Windows validations.
