Is really religion universal need?

The church and other established religions stress that they serve universal need of people. In India, the 'saints' including the 'rape accused' claim that there is no salvation without 'religious guru or saint'.

Is this true. The history of mankind is much longer than that of religion. There are ground to believe that we can live without religion- at least organized religion. These only boost superstition, mental slavery and close our minds.

Actually the word GURU itself is enough to make one feel that he is expert in some wonderful art of earning money. Now he does it to teach on on payment basis or wants to keep it all for himself. Gone are the days when a GURU was teacher of new arts to his students and the society.
