Such crimes have been committed by scores of men who are euqlly cruel and sadistic and such behavioral patterns can be seen in both the sexes....Since it is more common in men it is not commented upon and thought to be unusaul...

I think it is not war of sexes but the woman in this case might have done it to take revenge and sent whatever she sent to doctor's wife with a purpose. That was not a good way to show her anger but that must keep some of the men from acts those results in such incidents.
