This is against the very basic principle of Buddhism, the simple living.

True ! Once you decide to become a monk you have to abide by the rules....But human nature is such that, people do get tempted and want to have a fling once in a while like the monks did

If they are able to control their emotions they should not have become a monk.

I suppose so...however, we see most of the religious men breaking their vows now and then, taking care to see that it does not become public knowldge, whereas these monks have done it in style , taking a video shoot of their joyride lol... :cheer:

Be it Buddhism or Hinduism simplicity with minimum possessions is the prime factor in the life of a mendicant's life. You should see Satyasai baba's Ashram.

Simple living is associated with not only Buddhist but with all monks. But at present most of monks enjoying luxary life.
The Buddhist monks live on 'Bhiksha'. (donation). That is why they are called 'Bhikhuk (monk). A Buddhist monk does no believe in simplicity. He believes only in living on what others offer. So, if the 'bhiksha' is luxurious enough, he will live in luxury. He does not believe in veg or non veg food. He will accept what you give him to eat.
Have you heard of Po Lin the richest monastery anywhere in the world! It's in Hong Kong and then Dalai Lama who spent half his life traveling all over the world.
What a joyride!!! The times are indeed changing, every one is bitten with the prosperity bug!
Religion itself is a very thriving business and these days all religious leaders believe in surrounding themselves with luxurious things and living it up....So, Buddhist monks cannot be singled out...
