first right click o the file and then select properties you will get the answer there either it is AVI or some other format

You can right click on any video file and checkout its properties for finding out its format. If video is not AVI format you can use any good converter to covert video in avi format.

I believe that's pretty simple What you are talking about is "Properties" which is the last menu item while you right click on any file in Windows. Follow the same procedure as other friends have mentioned over here.
