Extremist attack on Congress group

In Chhhatisgarh, Congress leaders and men returning after a rally wee targeted by Maoists. Many have been killed or injured. This is indeed shocking. Sonia Gandhi has characterized this as an attack on democracy.

However, Maoists do not believe in the sort of democracy practiced by main stream political parties. They had warned both Congress and BJP not to hold rally failing which there would be dire consequences. The Maoists did what they were expected to do.

If you enter a lion's den, you cannot blame the lion of inhumanity and murder. This can be said about Maoists' activities also. Congress held rally in Maoists controlled region without adequate security arrangement. This is like suicide.

I agree that what Congree did was foolish, especially after knowing how inhuman and cruel Maoists are. However, it still shws how poor our internal security management is, not being able to handle a group of people who are nothing but criminals...

Moreover some Congress leaders were also involved with local militant organization 'Salwa Judam' created to fight the Maoists. Naturally these leaders were target of Maoists.

I agree sir that they have already warned the congress and BJP but India is a democratic country then how such people in one of it part can openly creates such violence and why cant government do anything about them.....if we get rid from britishers then why cant from such people...

Rather it was first time that politicians dared to hold 'yatra' in Maoist affected area despite warning. This is their first time experience. Presently, law and order is state subject but the states are not adequately prepared. .They also do not want to give up some of their authority to enable center to take strict measures.

The very fact that they are able to attack a political rally and cause so much harm shows that they are getting out of hand and may cause even more damamge in the coming days..

The trouble is that you try to look at Maoists according to standards set by main stream parties. It may be okay to say about congress that they have no standards left as they resorted to violence by establishing Salwa Judam though their leader Gandhi preached non violence. Maoists never accepted non violence. So for them, violence is norm and acceptable. They can survive well by collaborating with Congress or BJP. But they will not survive that way.

It is for Congress and BJP to plan how they will tackle Maoism. Maoists clearly believe that power flows from power of gun. So violence is okay for them. There needs to be a well coordinated powerful system to tackle them- politically and physically. It appears that neither Congress nor state governments nor opposition have any strategy to counter them. On the other hand, the Maoists are often used by parties against each other. For example, the Trinmool Congress allied with Maoists in West Bengal to counter Left front. Similarly, it appears that in Chhatisgarh and Jharkhand, Congress and BJP both are trying to use Maoists against their opposing political groups. It is also now decided by center that army will not be used against Maoists. It is also true that state police cannot counter Maoists. Then what is the remedy?

There is a Chines proverb- If you pick a stone bigger than your body, that injure your feet. That is what happened to Congress. They should have avoided their Yatra in view of Maoist challenge that was real and beyond control of state police. another folly was to include Salva Judam leaders in the Yatra. This irritated Maoists more.

The best weapon for an incapable government is ‘Lame excuses’. Government should not forget that its fighting against an ‘invisible’ and committed enemy. If the government wants 5 years to tackle the Maoists, Maoists will advance further by 5 years. Government is not realizing that unknowingly its giving the Maoists an advantage.

Ideally there should be some constructive dialouge between the maoist leaders and the government to sort out things...But Congress governement has never been good at such things because they either give in easily like with the Chinese or become stand offish..

Latest news says that the government has ruled out a dialogue with the Maos . Instead its thinking of providing extra protection to the politicians in the Mao prone regions.

It is okay to move in Maoist affected area with protection of police. But I wonder how you can canvass for votes in Maoist controlled area when you are surrounded by police and guards.
