In these days common sense has become unfortunately uncommon.
Common sense is the ability to make reasonable decisions. Generally, based on your past experience and your judgement capacity.
The most simple way of defining common sense according to Harriet Beecher Stowe is, “Common sense is seeing things as they are; and doing things as they ought to be.”
I guess our emotions get the better of us at times and blind us to what is apparent and needs to be done in a certain situation ...I see that I behave in such an irrational manner at times because other factors take over !

The emotions are more likely to get the better of us when we are overwhelmed by something or that thing rules us. The same might not happen to those things that we are not too attached to.
Common sense is what helps you decide even without specialized knowledge.
For me common sense is that does not offend others because you consider yourself over smart. Common sense seems to be the art mastered by commoners, not good or suitable for bigwigs.
:D

ha ha.. These days common sense is not that common as we so many people missing it.

I think common sense is applicable for common people only, big ones are exempted from it ;)

After all, we do those things on a general basis as what anyone in a certian situation would have done. And so as you said, one doesn't need technical or specialized skills.

So you suggest removing emotion or too much of it, would ensure application of 'Uncommon Sense'!!!
