A very good idea. We need religious professionals at occasions like birth, marriage and death. Now it appears that sex workers are also needed at all occasions. But why call them sex workers. They are really dancers. Dance art form differs from sex work.
As Gulshan sir had said that we can't call them sex workers but they are really good artists. This is a very ancient tradition, going on from the time the temple was first built. These dancers are called "Nagar Vadhus" or, city's brides and they participate in this ritual to attain salvation.

This is a strange custom, I never heard about. There is no meaning in dancing for a better next life, about which no one is sure.

They are also human being. They are also part of society.
Is Sex worker the right words for them??

The term 'twaif' was used for prostitutes/ dancers both as dancing was considered part of prostitute's job. Now 'sex worker' is used instead of 'prostitute'. It is better not to use 'sex worker' for the dancing girls.
The standard of Indian culture and civilization is coming down...and with that the standard of words once we used. As Gulshan sir had told here is an example how "Twaif" changed to prostitute and now a sex worker.
