Not only Agra but Ghaziabad, Meerut, Allahabad, Varanasi etc in UP and 38 in total in India will have to install a set top box from tonight 12 onwards. I have tata sky for almost 5 years so no worries for me.
This is already implemented in Delhi around 7~8 months back and I remember we did not watch TV for 2 days.
Is it about set top box which is required. If so it is a big problem and many people may have no option.
Yes, the set top box has been made compulsory and that's why they will not be able to watch TV. I think it will give the viewers good quality and reception.

Right now, I'm watching my TV. There is no set box for me. In my state Hyderabad and Vizag, where I live, were taken for this Pilot project. There was much hue and cry. Nothing happened. I'm seeing my TV in Analog mode.

My brother watches TV but he is away. I spend more time on computer and less on TV. But I checked and found that TV is not working in absence of set box. when my brother comes back, wed shall consider the option of set top box or tata sky.

Anyhow, according to the latest news, Centre has reportedly decided to digitise the channels one after the other, offering enough time to viewers to switch over to digital signals.
The latest news in UP where I am living presently says that TV viewers in all towns which were included in the list in 1st phase have already facing the problem. At least 50K TV are not working because they did not take set top box in my town only. There are about 2 lacks cable c apart from 1,37000 other dish connectionsonnections in my town.

Hey, how's that possible? May be they forgot to switch off the analog mode? But was your place supposed to be cut off from analog in case you don't have set top box?

That was a foolish decision taken by the government in haste. Now they realized. Please read my response to Gulshan ji. That's the latest position of set top box/s affair in the country.
I do not understand the need for a set top box unless they wanted to remove the cable itself. What is the big fun supplying digital signals through wires. It could have been better if they removed the cable and provided signals through a relay center to the set top boxes.

All the state governments are opposing installation of Set top Boxes within a Time frame.. There are mutually contradictory statements from the top brass of Central government. In the mean time AP cable operators got a stay against installation of Set top boxes from the High court of AP.
It seems there is chaos everywhere

Oh so is that the reason (AP cable operators got a stay against installation of Set top boxes from the High court of AP) why you were able to watch TV even in this month on analog mode?

Even well before the court stay, CM of AP had convinced the center to allow Analog transmissions. In addition to this several citizen bodies filed PIL against the installation of Set Top Box.
