Verma panel report has suggested some reforms in law on rape and other gender issues. But this report is not so comprehensive as made out. The panel says nothing about legalizing sex work voluntarily opted by women.

Needless to say that not only the 'hon'ble women' but also sex workers need justice. There can be no gender justice in true sense till the sex workers are ignored or neglected.

Chidambaram said, verma's recommendations were not ignored or removed. They are not implemented.

Verma committee report cannot be implemented in one go. This is understandable. But Verma commitee report is also silent on sex workers' rights and legalization of the trade. There can be no gender equality till sex workers do not get justice. The intention of this thread is to stress on this aspect.

However much our society looks down on them sex workers are an essential part of a human society. Sociologists are of the opinion that a legalised way of regulating prostitution can drastically bring down deviant criminal behavior like rape and other sex related crimes....people normally don't think of these aspects..

I understood. sex workers should be given the same status though Verma commission is silent. But the government can take the initiative.
