There have been many controversial movies. Theme of a movie must invariably relate to some place or person who would again be of certain linguist pr religious group. Nobody knows when somebody may object and for what. I remember a movie- Raja aur rank. The movie had a song- Mera naam hai chameli men hoon malin albeli chali ayee akeli biner se. This song referred t a place- Bikaner, and a caste or job- gardener woman. The mali community in Bikaner was furious on this movie.

Here are some controversial movies. Presently there is controversy on Vishwaroopam.

There was also Aandhi which was supposed to be based on Indira Gandhi's life, and was banned by the Congress government... There was a song in old film Sawan ki Ghta ( which had Manoj Kumar and Sharmila Tagore in the lead) Honton pe haseen aankhon mein nasha, which was banned because it was supposed to be too sexy for the audience...There were lines Jab chahe mujhe paagal karde, Tan mein man mein sholay bhar de, which were found objectionable...compare that the lyrics of today , seems pretty tame !
The golden era songs were so beautiful and also the lyrical words are very modest and beautiful with reference to today's.
There was a song: Aanchal mein kya hai...etc.

Congress government fell after the emergency and when the Janata dhal government came into power Aandhi was released without any cuts, probably in 1976 or there abouts...It was and is being shown on all channels including Doordarshan..
