A few days back, I saw the movie 'Oh My God'. It's clearly shown in that movie. Milk is given to shrines by devotees and they flow through the drainage.....but in the front gate of the temple, we can see a lot of poor and hungry people. Thank God, I have never seen such a temple in Kerala where litres of milk are wasted this way...
A fantastic thread Mary. A thought provoking thread
earlier I used to throw away remaining food without any hesitation. a few years back, a forward mail changed my attitude a lot. it was the dreadful picture of kids of somalia and my eyes filled with tears. I was carrying that time. My mind was disturbed by those images. after that till now, I think twice before throwing away something. i place in refrigerator and use it if I can.
Feeding statues will go waste only. Rather, it can be supplied to poor. Feeding poor is the best mode of serving God. Lets start feeding poor.
Moral of the story- Start looking God in human who are still alive rather than spending money on idols
:) It is right hungry and poor peoples have first right on food. In my city milk is not wasted. On mahashivratri milk collected and distributed among to poor.

There is a popular quote in Tamil which means See the Lord in poor's smile.

Make poor smile. It is a good quote to be remembered by us. This quote was coined by Former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Arignar. C. N. Annadurai.
That's what I feel too we spend lot of money to please God which we are not sure if we pleased Him or not its better to feed poor they will surely give us blessing which God also accept for us.

A few years back all Ganesha statues world wide were drinking milk . Temples and worship have become a medium of demonstrating and wasting money.
It is true and not only for God we should think about the resources too. as after some time due to such wastage nothing will be left to eat..
Whatever is given to the poor is given to God only. So feed the poor without hesitation.
What would you do of normal belief allover the world that giving alms and donations in the name of God books your seat in heaven.
Nature has given everything to everybody. But people used to keep all things to themselves. Not having the sharing habit.
Nice thought provoking thread. But if we say this inside a place of worship, we would get beat up eventually. So let us not donate to idle sitting idols since all the money we donate goes to some trust or individuals not to GOD. serving fellow humans is equal to serving GOD.
Statues will waste the food. Poor persons will eat the food.

if Ganesha drinks milk without wasting it, it's Ok :P
also for rituals, there is milk abhishekam in temples. But used only a little. that milk is used as 'theertham' in most south Indian temples before giving prasad in the hands of devotees. in any case, milk should not be wasted in the name of god :)
Good link, and i think we should think about it, very true

Every one is doing this they wont help to poor but they will spend money for this things alot.

ya, it's true too..
many do believe that giving alms to poor book easy tickets to heaven :cheer: :cheer:

now I remember on story in Mahabharatha about a golden rat. how many of you know that story?

after the yaga conducted by yudishtira soon after this victory over kaurava (spending a lot of money), he saw a rat rolling over the food remains of the yaga and alms given to poor. but he became sad :( :( . at that time, pandavas ask him the reason.....rat told them a story.
years before there was a Brahmin family, so poor. one day, they got a little food not even enough to fill one stomach (in those bad days of starvation). suddenly a traveler came to their home and Brahmins see God in guests, according to their beliefes.."Adhiti devo bhava"
at first the master of the home gave his share, but it was not enough. then his wife and their kids one by one to keep their guest happy even though they hadn't eaten for 3-4 days. Traveller became pleased seeing their hospitality and suddenly he changed to a 'deva'. actually he came to test this Brahmin family and became well pleased and took them to heaven. (I think so)
that rat was witnessing this event and as soon as they left, he tried to eat (or accidentally fall  ) the waste of that food. suddenly one half changed to gold. so, he desired to get the second half of his body also changed to gold. so, whenever he see a yaga conducted he will go there, roll to find if this particular one is as divine as the alms given by the poor Brahmin family.
this time also he desperately left the place saying, "it's not as divine as that one."

do give me a thank you as your alms if you like my story ;)
