Yes I have done that already.. one hour (may be more) ago.
What do you mean by having boiled rice at home?!
while grinding at night, add a handful of boiled rice to it to get soft appam.
if you have used 1 cup rice for the preparation, put only a few yeast balls....around 10. add a little coconut water also while grinding.
never forget to add coconut. it adds taste to the dish
Got it.. All preparation done. Will tell you tomorrow about it. Thanks.
ask your mother not to forget to cover the appam with a closed lid during preparation. otherwise it will dry.
make in your chapathi non stick pan.
Sandy,
Your narration/explaination on preparation of Appam is to good. It shows that you are very good at cooking (kingdom (kitchen)). Your kid and hubby are too blessed. I think you have 1 kid.
ya, 1 kid Gauri

cook in medium flame
Sandy,
Happy Republic Day!
Is it possible to show us a live demo of making Kerala delicious Appam through video conference?
Is Gauri at school now for Republic Day Celebration? Is she performing today?
Well, My mom already made it but it looks little different.. Lol.. But taste is really good, I don't know if it is like original one but I liked it.
I have taken photo too, but will post it tomorrow.. Thanks again Sandhaya.
then we shall make 'puttu' next time.
if she learns to make putt, she will start putt festival at home, as it never takes more than 10 minutes for preparation :P

flour is same....rice flour....but it's not to be powdered too nice.
check in nearby mall if you find putt powder of Brahmin's brand.
both putt (steam cake and appam) are healthy dishes as they are steam cooked. you can make putt in wheat powder also.
check the photos given by swetha, i have named putt

How to make it? I checked the photos, it looks good too.
ok...will give you its recipe later. just check if you get its instant flour in your market
I don't think here it will be available.. I mean they may not know its name either... but will check it. Can't we grind rice for the same.
you need to soak rice for a few hours and powder it (not too fine). then you need to heat it a little to make rice flour for steam cake. if you are interested I will give you its recipe later. instead opt for rice flour packets. if so, you can make steam cake instantly

Swetha created this delicious thread to give a visual treat to her friends including me. But Sandhya Rani made it a real treat by explaining how to make these items. Dream come true experience.
Appreciations to Swetha and Sandy.
