I guess in big cities now women position is same as men, and it should be like that. But that is also truth that in many part of India it is not the same.

Position of Women is in a deplorable condition all over the world. And its more in India, where we claim that Woman in Indian Society is no less than a Goddess.
And what this goddess's condition is in reality is well known and you too are aware, Just an hour ago one of our Telugu channels reported about a father who tried to molest his own daughter . Seeing this his own wife killed this husband . This happened in a place called Proddutur in the state of AP
In big cities women position in society is same, but I don't think they have the same position at home.
A lot has changed as far as women's position is concerned. Women has come forward to get the respect from men and has achieved a lot in getting respect, importance from them.
Still, a lot of more work to do to put the men and women at same level.

Good and much needed question. It is not easy to answer this question. I can say position is not good at present.
However we say that now woman and man are equal but in every place the discrimination is seen and in most of the places they are exploited even on the work place too they are not considered equal to their men colleagues.

I agree with you Sanjeev Gupta, this is still happening
Gender discrimination is widely spread across India. Not only in our country India, but also the world. Position of women depends on the economical condition of the family and their lifestyle.
We should respect them overall . Now they are not in behind and they can do anything.
Men and women both should respect t each other as both are respected. Some cruel persons want to destroy this relationship. We should hate them.
Women hold same position int he society.Women are no less than men.But no one care for the safety of women.

One small example tells you all - the other day one of my friends wanted to take a ban loan for the education of her son by pledging her house which is in her name and has been in her name since 20 years, after completing all the formalities, the bank manager wanted er to get a his signature from her husband without which they could not sanction the loan, and her husband has left her and the children and is living his own life.So the fact of the matter is that a woman cannot eve take a loan on her own property without the permission of her husband who may even be a criminal in this blessed country of ours...

That is so distressing and ridiculous, and in a country where many hi-profile leading banks have women as presidents and chief financial officers!!! Your friend should file a suit against the bank,. when she is so perfectly capable of paying back the loan, they cannot deny loan to her! Most rules related to bank loans are really stupid!

It needs be seen whether bank refused loan only because she is a woman. The main criterion in sanctioning loan is income of the borrower. If the borrower can mortgage house but has no viable income, bank will be reluctant to sanction loan.

That definitely does not seem to be the case. Usha has already stated that the husband has left her and she is living on her own, supporting her children. She also has her house registered in her name as collateral so why ask for her husband's signature to approve the loan??? THIS is what is upsetting!

This is a glaring case of open discrimination based on gender, I feel very strongly that she seek proper counsel but then that would be a waste of time!

Yes it definitely would be a waste of time since SBI is a nationalised bank and other banks look up to it for guide lines. ...

I agree that she may not be able to afford a legal battle. But she can definitely send her case to women commission as this is a case of gender discrimination.
