More Calories Burnt by Climbing Stairs Slowly

A recent study conducted by the University of Roehampton has found that climbing a flight of stairs one step at a time is more effective in burning calories than taking multiple stairs at a time.

The study found that the calories burned is about 300 calories on an average, if a person climbs five flights of stairs five times in a week, whereas if the person takes two steps at a time, the calorie loss is only 260 calories.

Sounds interesting. Personally I used to skip few steps and go for two at one daily. WEll, I do that because like that I can climb them speedily.. But I didn't know that it can also affect in this section. I guess I have to go for all stairs from today. Thanks for sharing.
Nice tips and we may avoid lift and use stairs . It will be more effective to fatty persons.

It is true that climbing stairs burn more calories. As we have other ways to burn calories it is better to avoid climbing stairs unless it is quiet essential. It is also proved that too much climbing can lead to knee problems.. :S

I don't think too much of climbing of the stairs lead to knee problems. Rather its the other way round.

I have seen only doctors prefer using stairs rather than elevators. I am using stairs at my office not the elevators.

Robert sir, in the last one year since i joined my office, i gradually lost 4 kgs by just climbing!!!

To reach my cabin, i need to climb 88 steps

to reach my home from ground floor, i need to climb 60 steps

and both my office and home donot have an elevator!!!!!!!!! (except for a freight lift in office)

the distance from my home to office is 2 mts....so i go to work by walk and come to home by walk

i used to sleep a lot and be lazy before i joined this office. now i am active and running around like PT Usha!

Good information, it is healthier to take the stairs if you are living in an apartment.I normally use stairs when I have to climb up 2 or 3 stairs, and when we do this every day twice or thrice the benefits ar really immense...

I live in an apartment. I have to Climb 45 steps to reach my flat. Seldom i use lift.
We move up and down many stairs in a day. I have never thought about this ever.
