Appreciations to Gulshan Ji on posting this nice and informative thread. Belated Diwali wishes to you. In Ancient days, there was no cooking at all.

I heartily reciprocate your greetings. It is true that early man did not cook. In fact, early man was not aware of cooking. He would eat what was naturally available just as other animals did. But many think that he also hunted and ate birds and small living things. Man would have taken a lot of time to begin agriculture and even making tools like bow and arrow for hunting.

Before invention of fire by human beings, there could not be any other options. Only greenery could be the source of food at that ancient times.

Early man was more of a hunting animal than a human. it took time for the man to evolute himself to a full fledged human
Nice information Gulshan ji.

But I read somewhere that primitive man used to rely on animals they used to kill animals too and eat their flesh.

The early period was also too long and must have gone in various phases. First only grass, leaves and fruits as found in nature. Later, hunting with arrow and eating raw. Then roasting and boiling. Later, agriculture and dairy farming. All this would have also taken very long period. Also the physical features of primitive men would be different fro present day man.

Here is another link that views that early man ate grass and flowers.

I think at that time, even the meat eaters were not used to eat cooked meat. May be at that time fire was not discovered.
I have read that early man loves hunting animals and eat them to satisfy his hunger. The day he kills no animal, he kills his friend and eat him.
I guess the early man ate lot of fruits and nuts grown on trees along with the animals he used to hunt. The meats were eaten raw after the animal was killed. Cooking was introduced later.

There was no law or restrictions to kill another human or animal. The early man lived like an animal. He can ate whatever he see when he is in hunger.
From the images that archaeologists have unearthed early man was a meat eater and he hunted and also ate everything that was available like roots, fruits and leaves. It was only later that he began to grow things and became an agriculturist as well besides being a hunter.
They ate raw green veg and raw flesh after hunting them. After discover of fire they learnt to cook through burning.
Early man eat the raw meat when they discovered fire they kill animals and roast them and eat.
So roasting is the first process of cooking and continuing still now by man.

Of course. when you do not know cooking and first time see fire, what will you do. You can only warm yourself and the food. You warm the raw meat. This is called roasting. Boiling comes later. You put the eatable in water and boil.
Early man just roam from one jungle to another in search of food. They kill animals and eat its flesh and also pluck fruits from the trees and survive.
Man first ate raw food later he had known the value of fire and he used to cook the food on that.
Early men were the ape.they just eat whatever they get in front of them. They even some times eat the leaves of trees and survive on sea food and nuts and berries.
