Sarala edit your title ear ,just add an i other wise it will not get colour.
We put on mehindi during festivals and marriage. Festivals like teeg, sankranti, any puja of Gods and Goddesses, rakhi, etc.
When mehindi is put on our hands, it reacts with skin and gives red colour. Mehindi absorbs the heat from out body and becomes dry itself to leave back red colour.
Mehendi is good for our health too, it give a positive to look and absorbs heat from our body.
Mehendi gives color on our hands because it contains a pigment called "lawsone" that has the ability to stain human skin.
Wow Ashii, you have cleared my doubt. thank you so much dear

This is correct. I want to add the pigment shades found in mehindi - red, dark brown and black.
I have seen the girls use it but do the boys use it ? Boys use tattoo on their body not mehendi I think.

But I am still not clear why does the pigment not stain the forehead skin?

Putting Mehndi is considered to be one of the rituals in marriage. So, they must be putting something to the alternative of Mehndi.

i can't remember......
I don't know if it's applicable for Muslims.....
One day before Muslim marriage they do have a function Mehndi marriage. During this function, Oppana dance will be performed.
I want to know if Oppana and mappila paatu are performed among muslims of North India
Oppna - bride will be seated and girls dance around her, teasing her. If it's done for a boy, it's Mappila paattu. Mappila means Muslim groom
i guess our face contain excess oil that many be the reason mehindi does'nt colour forehead.
Festive season girls enjoyed to put Mehindi drawings in hand and leg also.
Sandhya Mehendi function will be in all religions.
Mehendi signifies a the nature of the husband itseems. In our south Indian belief
we can uesd mehindi in our hands and feet during the festival and wedding ceremony.
