While talking about Indian victory in Cricket Union miister Jaiswal simply made a witty remark: New success is more attractive like a new wife.

Obviously, he meant no disrespect to women and his remark is witty.

But opposition are not so witty. Hence, Jaiswal is made to withdraw his remarks.

I find nothing wrong with the remarks but opposition always take minister's remarks seriously and try to make out something against it which is not good. They are also human being and every time they can't speak for which someone may not extract a negative meaning.
This is the character of the politician of India. They forget that they also has wife, mother and sister in their home. One day they will also become the old one.

The minister did not insult women. He was talking only about cricket match. Comparing latest victory to 'new wife' is not intended to insult women. This is in lighter vein. In fact, Jaiswal is 'old husband' and his wife 'old wife'. Both must be living happily. It is no use turning serious on every remark made in lighter vein.
Politics is very serious game. There is no place for humors and jokes. I think he is paying for that.
Actually he said it simply but in his status as politician and minister he should not talk like this.
All are closely watching the words of celebrity especially media is clearly watching. So they have to very careful when talking.
One should take the stage where one is sanding into consideration. Humor is one of the most important parts of life but certain places are not meant for that.

The minster was not speaking in parliament nor he was giving any formal address. He was in a poetic gathering (kavi sammelan). What type of seriousness you expect in a poetic function?

There is scope of humor everywhere. Mostly politicians are made target for humor by poets. Why should politicians also not cut jokes and be humorous some times.

Now do you want that a politician should look very serious and gloomy even on occasion like marriage and Holi celebration?

Certain places are not for humor. But the minister was in a Kavi Sammelan which is definitely apt place for humor.
There have been many instances when every day humor has been taken far too seriously and misinterpreted by the politicians and even the media at times.I remember an instance where the then Chief Minister of Karnataka had said that he was fond of having a peg or two in the evening after his work and like others also was keen on watching all the beautiful women gathered from around the world ( this was during the time when Miss world was held at Bangalore ) and he was criticised and condemned by the media and others...
