He is ninety five years old. His condition is very critical and improvement appears difficult.

More on A.K. Hangal. He came to India from Sialkot (now in Pakistan). He acted in hundred of films including still movies. However, we remember him more for Sholey and Bawarchi. He was also a social and political worker. He was closely associate with Theater also. Here are links that give more about his career- social, arts, political and of course, film. From the link, now I came to know that Shahird is his first movie. A movie I love for its comedy and music. But which role, he played?

It's also written in the link, "Bollywood's favourite grandpa". :) :) :)

He died at the age of 98. He also acted in silent movies. Being so veteran, he is naturally not only grand pa but grand grand pa. I have not seen Shahird. You may search in U tube and get your answer. In sholey also, he was fatherly. He was Imam in this movie. His young son was killed by bandits. The villagers want that Jai and Viru be sent away to pacify the bandits

But Hangal playing the role of Imam says- who says that he cannot bear the burden of these two. There is no burden heavier than dead body of son. I can bear the burden.despite being so aged. who says that these two are burden? who wants to send them. I say- Let them stay her and fight the bandits. Respectful death is better than shameful life. .
Shahird is really a nice movie Sir. You should see it at least once......Johar is the real star of that movie.
He started his career with Rs 20 in Bombay and earlier he worked as a tailor and acted in stage .
I think, he has acted as old loyal and good servant in many films. Am I right?

His first movie is 'Teesri Kasam' in which he played role of raj kapoor;'s elder brother.

I remember having seen shaigird' but you spelt differently. So, I could not understand.

It is so strange that none of Bollywood big stars even attended Hangal's funeral ceremony.

More on Hangal's last rites and life. He was more involved in theater than movies. He came to films only after persuaion from other theater artists, who had also joined commercial movies.

Hangal performed role of servant in 'Aandhi'. Sanjiv Kumar was very uncomfortable with Hangal's posing as if were really a servant. Theater srtists play more realistically. Hangal told Sanjiv Kumar to feel normal as an actor is supposed to act realistically.
