Today is the last day according to Malayalam Calendar and with today's Sandhya (sunset) , Karkidakam is saying good bye. Tomorrow, August 17, we celebrate it as our prosperous new year. :) :) :)
It's spring season and season of celebrations.
We celebrate Onam on Thiruvonam day and Janmashtami on Rohini star. Also, Ramzan is celebrated this month.
Happy new year to all Boddunan members in advance :) :) :)

Happy New Year to you and all the people from Malayalam. So any new year resolutions you taking up ?
Yes....
Karkidakam was a bad month according to us and people never do good things during this month. So, I was waiting for Chingam to start my first blog ...
am starting with recipes
Happy new year Sandhya and all Keralites on Boddunan.
Happy new year to people all over India too!!!!
A very, very happy new year to you Sandhya and all Malayalam friends worldwide. Wonderful year ahead.
I think you have given your self a new year gift on the eve of your new year, congrats once again.
This is good to know as I felt some bad in this month even my bd is also in this month.
sandhya then do you celebrate it as a newyear or not. For our telugu new year, we prepare a chutney with 7 tastes and offer to god and eat. We even goto temple also. So how you people celebrate
Today is Attam....On the 10th day, it's Thiruvonam. It's calculated according to stars......today is Attam star.
During my childhood days, onam has given me a lot of sweet memories. We used to make 'Attam/Pookkalam' on 10 days in our courtyard using flowers. We used to go to every neighbour's home to collect flowers and we make attam nicely. On the day of Thiruvonam day, when our Attam is destroyed, I used to feel an emptiness in my heart and soul!!!

Now, I rarely see attams made in courtyard.....only seen Attam competitions in streets and colleges....things have changed a lot!!!!

Yet, we make attam at least on Thiruvonam day, to see happiness of our girl. Actually, kids enjoy Attam and Swing a lot during Onam season.

Very often, a star may be repeated. If so, we get 11 days for making Attam

we also go to temple on Chingam 1st.
It's believed, if this day is good, the whole year will be good for us.
So all keep peace and harmony in family and society.

Actually Chingam can be named as the spring season of Kerala

according to our astrology, it's the most joyful season.

also, maximum marriages are performed this month. So, if anyone want to conduct marriage this month, best auditoriums needed to be booked before 6-8 months.
In Guruvayur temple, even more than 150-200 or more marriages happen in a single day of Chingam.
Why can't we celebrate Onam in Boddunan this year?
We have even made our whole MBA+MCA celebrate Onam, while we were studying in Tamil Nadu. That's we.
What do you think?

Am thinking to give you a special 'Onathallu' :P :P (Beatings using a stick....a game)
We do celebrate Onam at schools and colleges in a grand way.
Today, my girl is having Onam celebrations in her class :cheer:
She will return just shortly.
I send her flowers to make Attam and some sweets for her friends. They will have a feast at noon.

What a lovely scene it would be, when small kids helping their teachers to make pookkalam in their classes. Isn't it?
They will get payasam also.
