Today we must break the pot in the evening we all will have a joy.
Yes its popular in North India. :)
In many of the area they hang the pot at height and fix high prize to break that pot. :)
Dahi handi is associated with Maharastra mostly when groups of Govindas break the Handi and win prizes .

Yes, it's done in our Krishna temples too......

Happy Janmastami to all the boddunan members and hope its celebrate throughout India..
No, it's celebrated next month in our state :huh: :huh:
So what we can celebrate it again that day, what is the harm if Krishna is born twice within a month. More sweets more fun. :laugh: :laugh:
Ok done....
I told about my best friend Jini. Her birthday falls just one day before Krishna Jayanthi....sometimes, even same day.
So, double celebrations every year for the past 15 years!!!!! :) :) :)

OH YES YES!! The ones in Mumbi are the best!! Did you see on TV yesterday??? There was one group which was successful in creating a pyramid of 9 layers!! It was really exciting.
Yesterday night we took my son to dahi handi because he has not seen it yet, but the group sin Pune were more interested in dancing to loud music under water fountains. They were supposed to break the handis late at night so had to show him on TV ultimately!
@Devyani.....
I want you to clear my doubt.....
No way to send PM now. That's why.
Friends what Sandhyaji has pointed out is very correct. Sunil has very well tried to explain this with examples. I appreciate it.
Friends I would like to put forward my own concept regarding each and every festivals not only Janmastami.
Lets consider an example when Lord Krishna was born.
The stars and constillations were very special. Such planetary combination will never come back again. If such event happens again and a child is born during that time period, the child will be as strong as God (Lord Krishna). Hence with the passage of time, planets are moving according to their destiny and various events of taking place. The date when God was born may be same but the constillations, zodiac and the planetary positions may not be the same. Only the climate will be the same. The day when Lord Krishna was born, it rained heavily in the midnight when his father secretly took him away from the captive to Brig. It was rainny season and dark night.
I have same explanation regarding the birthday of Lord Jesus and Lord Rama.
@Devu....
My doubt was...why it's celebrated in two different dates.....this month in North India and next month in South India. Can you ask your father please?
This is new for me, didn't you all celebrate Janmashtami yesterday???
No....just go through my posts from first page :( :( :( :(
I want my doubts to be cleared :(

The explanation is probably because you fall South Indian calender, which may be based on what I don't know. But the rest of India celebrates it in the month of Shravan, you call it chingam I suppose, which always is in August . You will have to study the calender that you follow! I don't know your system so unable to comment!
