I do have a brother, 4 years younger than me. Yet, I have never tied a rakhi in his arm, as it's not a big celebration in Kerala (like Holi). But I have seen a few. How do you people celebrate Raksha Bandhan? Is it just like shown in Bollywood films or a bit different?
Let me wish you a happy Raksha bandhan in advance........

Also, do share some nice Rakhi memories, if you have any. :) :)

I have no sister. As such, there is no Rakhi to me. Sisters tie a Rakhi on wrist of brother. The brother gives some gift usually money. This is all about the celebration. There are also special food preparations. A special sweets called Ghewar is more common on this occasion.
Movies show its dramatic angle only otherwise its festival of true love.
I have posted an article today to describe its real values.

Yes,in our Gujarat there is a holiday on Rakhshabandhan. Sister tie beautiful Rakhi on her Brother's hand. Sweets is distributed then after the Celebration begins.
I think...Phoolon ka taarom ka is the best song based on brother-sister relationship....of course the film too.
Enjoy the song..

Sandhyaji I have brother. I have tied him Rakhi in childhood. Now he has grown up. He refuses to celebrate it. I don't like any festivals. He is boring.
Friends lets celebrate Rakhi here in Boddunan.com
What do you say? We will send online Rakhi to all.

Rakhi is not Bengali festival. Bengalis don't prefer to celebrate it.
We do celebrate it in AP.. I think on that auspicious day there is another significance.. Sacred thread is also exchanged by Brahmins which is a custom here in AP.

In U.P. also, Brahmins tie Rakhi on wrist of their patrons (Yajman). In fact, Rakhi is symbol of Brother undertaking to protect his sister. Similar promise is given to Brahmin.
Every year I eagerly wait for this day to tie a rakhi in my brothers wrist.I celebrate this day with my brothers .I give gifts to my four brothers and share sweets among them. They also give gifts to me.A very special day for me.
I think there are few pockets in every state where they celebrate even in Southern states. But yes, not every one in south celebrates Rakshabandhan.
