I do have a brother, 4 years younger than me. Yet, I have never tied a rakhi in his arm, as it's not a big celebration in Kerala (like Holi). But I have seen a few. How do you people celebrate Raksha Bandhan? Is it just like shown in Bollywood films or a bit different?
Let me wish you a happy Raksha bandhan in advance........

Also, do share some nice Rakhi memories, if you have any. :) :)

I got 2 brothers through Boddunan...Ram Chettan and Kannan.
For both my bhayyas, bahana ki tharaf se...a special rakhi. :) :)

I think there are few pockets in every state where they celebrate even in Southern states. But yes, not every one in south celebrates Rakshabandhan.

Why Rakhshabandhan is not celebrated in South?

There is a diversity in customs and festivals. Deepawali is also celebrated more in North. Also Bengalis celebrate Durga Puja and not Dussehra. Traditionally, Rakhsbandhan is also more celebrated in North India. There is not much reasoning behind extent of celebration in various states. some times, same festival may be celebrated in a different name.

But Rakshabandhan is festival which we should celebrate, to strengthen our relation of brother and sister. why this festival is not given encouragment in South?

Every festival has a purpose. But every festival is not celebrated everywhere. South Indians can also celebrate Rakhi but they are not accustomed to this.

Actually this is not a festival but a trust and faith. Brothers want to reassure their sisters hat they will save sisters from any trouble. Now days even sisters are doing that for their brothers, this is mutual- love and faith.
Yes in Northern India Raksha Bandhan is celebrated equally like any other festival.I don't celebrate it as i don't have a sister. This time my daughter was saying that she will tie Rakhi on my wrist. :)

Anyhow, your kids are lucky to celebrate it in a great way. Since they are twins, it's so special. Isn't it, Sanjeev?

This was my daughter who used to tie a Rakhi on my wrist every year since my only sister lives too far and cannot come here every year. In fact this is as good as your sister if your daughter ties rakhi on your wrist.
Can anyone tell me, what's the story behind Rakhi???
Not only in Kerala , In tamilnadu too it is not a big celebration. But now a days it is getting popular.
Yesterday evening I went for a shopping. I was surprised see a lot of Rakhi bands in a small shop.
When asked, they told, now a days rakhi bands are moving. If not, they can be used as friendship band.

Ok friends...
Coming Sunday is friendship day. Wishing you all a happy friendship day in advance

I reciprocate. But please do not fall in trap of sellers of bands and threads. After friendship day, they will select some other occasion for their sale.
