I have the habit of never throwing any books or even magazines if I can help it.I have some really old Woman and Home , Illustrated weekly of India and Film India , all passed down to me by my great Aunt who was an avid reader.
The pages are brittle, and I got them all bound together.my children love to go through them ...I cut out interesting pages from magazines and get them bound together before disposing old magazines since it takes up a lot of space, as it is my house is overflowing with books and bound copies ... :cheer:
Also, I never give away any of the novels or books that I buy. However, I see that when people borrow books from you they conveniently forget to return the same or when you ask them, they have forgotten where they have put it...
Books are like legacies that you can pass down to your children ..

I like your habit but the problem we face while constantly changing places. i had been posted in too many places during my service that would not allow me to keep old mags but books, yes I have a good collection although I have disposed my Bangalore collection while leaving Bangalore this April for ever. I had a good number of books there.

It must have been very painful to let go of that collection. In my own case we have changed homes so many times and I have had to keep taking all the books around, since we had a permanent residence in mangalore , I could periodically dump everything there..

I am unfortunate in that too as I lost share in my parental home in October 2010 after the death of my father although, I never claimed my share since I am not willing to go for a long court affair. Besides I do not need it as I am disposing my present property to go settle in Australia soon.

Thats too bad to have lost what was rightfully yours, but every wrong also has a right and I am sure that you will be compensated in time ! It is good that you are planning to migrate to Australia, you can be close to your daughter and grand son :)

They are the only reason behind our decision to move to Australia. I have cleared my test of ISO auditor's exam to keep myself active there.

What book is that Ram ? Chanakya is still considered to be the most brilliant philosopher ever ...I agree that we get a lot of information by going through old magazines and books - a glimpse of how life was then , which is a very interesting contrast to what it is now !
There are many books whose price keeps on increasing in international markets. Some are the original scripts or the last published copy of famous legendry writer or poet. Those many be in value of crores. Books are assets. Many books are treasures. Many books have secrets which discovers the unknown facts of the past. Books collection is truely a good hobby.
