Today is Karkidakam 1st....the last month of Malayalam Calender and today it marks the beginning of Ramayana reading.
Since it's the last month, no good celebrations, rituals, marriages.....are not conducted this month. On August 17, New year begins according to malayalam Calender.
For 1 month, Ramayana written by Ezhuthachan is read in homes, which is believed to be very good. Also, people as a group go to different homes to read Ramayana.
Karkidaka Kanji....a medicinal food is also taken by many people as it's a bad climate this month to resist all diseases....a lot of climatic variations this month....so diseases also common. It's said, we should avoid leafy vegetables this month as it include harmful contents.....it's scientifically proved

Nice to know all this...
Actually we should read Ramayana whole year..
I really forget to add 1 important thing of this month. Really sorry.....

Naalambala Darshanam......means......Darshanam of 4 temples......Rama, Bharatha, Lekshmana and Shatrughna is done on this month......

So, during this month all temples belonging to these 4 will be very crowdy, particularly in the morning....

Let me tell a few words about it.
It's said, if we visit 4 temples....ie. of 4 brothers, it's very good.
Also, it has to be done early morning....Should Visit Rama first, Bharatha Second, lekshmana Third and Shatrughnan Fourth. Then we should return back to Sri Rama to tell him. i.e. A full circle is completed.
Reading Ramayana and visiting these 4 temples in a row, can make our wishes true .....Also, it's very good. :) :) :)
But till now, I didn't get an opportunity of Naalambala darshanam.

Hoping you have read about Bali done for our ancestors on Amavasi day of this month. It's believed it's most powerful day of souls. Read my previous posts.

In Thrissur, the 4 temples people normally select are.....Triprayar SriRama Temple, Irinjalakuda Koodalmanikyam Temple of Bharatha, Moozhikkulam Lakshmana Temple, and Payammal Shathrughna Temple
It will take almost a half day to complete all these 4 temples and many temples itself arrange such pilgrims.
Check this link.....you can know everything about this pilgrim visit

Our prosperous month Chingam begins August 17.....first month of our calender.

Yesterday was auspicious 'illam nira'.......where farmers give rice to temples and do Lekshmi pooja for prosperity.

http://www.peruvanathirattayappan.org/illamnira/

Farmers go to temple with paddy in bundles

{CJATTACHMENT ["id": 8330]}

I think it's today, if we go any temple celebrating 'illam nira', we will get a paddy. It's believed that if we place it in our home, somewhere, our one year will be prosperous.

Years before, I went to a home just near Sree Krishna temple. I saw a huge bundle tied in the roof, inside home. She said, when she gets it every year, she ties that single paddy to it. Now years have made a bundle. :) :) :)
