Dress code for tourists is a bizarre idea of Kashmir fundamentalists. They say that the semi nude and revealing dress of tourists go against local culture.
But do they not realize that tourists are back bone of valley economy. Moreover, nobody expects tourists to follow dress code and culture of every place visited by them.

This dress code should be for the whole of India. I appreciate what Kashmiris have said regarding the culture and descipline.
How can you have same dress code for whole India. Dress code may be in establishments, institutions, clubs but this cannot be in street and that too for foreigners.
They want to make it like Saudi Arabia where there is absolutely no freedom for either citizens or outsiders...The next thing the fundamentalists will say is that all ladies should cover their head and so on...
I doubt if Saudi Arabia has this law for the foriegners also i don't think it is.
Most probably, Saudi Arabia has not prescribed a dress code for foreign tourists. The only restriction is on liqueur.
When you go to Saudi Arabia , Ladies no matter where you come from, have to wear a long dress covering your hands and feet and tie a scraf round your head. You cannot wear a saree there unless you wear a hijab over it.I took some music cds and they were all dumped into the bin with utter disregard also a small ganesha statue that was in my suitcase was also thrown in the bin...The arrogance the immigration officials have , has to be seen to be believed ..
Actually Saudi Arabia, is totally a muslim country. So,there you have to follow what they are following from years and decades.
About the officials in the immigration, what they did, should not be done. They should had respect to GOD.
But let me tell you, there are many tourists in india,do smuggle drugs, in the deity Idols of India. So,may be they would had think this, and did that cruel mistake.
No that is not the case Ronark. When you go to Saudi Arabia you cannot take any scriptures or symbols belonging to any other religion and also no musci or video cds, also no story books etc etc...
So this means that they are very strict.

Dress code is one type of restriction in a free country.
I don't think this is fair.
I personally am against any dress code as long as it is not offensive. But , just for arguments sake, there are some countries still following a strict dress code and they dont like people wearing revealing clothes and the European and other Western tourists do follow it, so do we when we visit those countries..
Yes they must keep in mind that they are in our country and our culture cannot allowed this type of dress in our country. It give bad effect in our society...........
Then you have to decide whether you want tourism and hospitality industry at all? Moreover, our people also come across various cultures, dress, styles only if you allow tourists to come in their own dress, style and way.
May I ask that if you go to Andaman Nicobar Islands, you will take off all your clothes and instead cover your waist with leaves as the tribal there do. After all according to your argument, a tourist must follow the local dress code, whatever this is.
Usha so many people hate saudi in my opinion as they wont respect other religious people.
Yes , people go there mainly because of work and earning opportunities, but life is depressing since there is very little in the name of entertainment, no theaters and one cannot go to any restaurant in a mixed crowd unless it is a family ...Ladies have very little freedom, they cannot go out without a male escort who has to be either a family member or husband..

Very true!! Maldives is a perfect example of the balance between their own culture and their tolerance to other cultures. Maldives is a predominantly Muslim country and their own dress code is strict enough and yet they are very tolerant to tourists of all kinds, from all over the world, because they have realized that tourism is the only kind of industry they can prosper from! A lesson to all! I think Malaysia too is similar although I am not much sure if there dress code is restricted or not!

thats right maldives is very relaxed as far as dressing is concerned .Mlayasia too is the same, absolutely no restrictions there and Dubai , which is probably the only country which has no restrictions whatsoever...
I think freedom to wear should be there. The Government should just give a notice to all the tourist that, what ever you wear, should not be vulgar. That's it!
Who decides what is vulgar. The tourists may consider their dress decent even if you say this is vulgar. If you really want to promote tourism, rid yourself of notions like this.

Very true, In Goa you see the foreigners with next to nothing on them , but when you see that it is hot and they are on the beach it really doesn't seem to matter at all !

Very true. We should bother about ourselves and not tourists. They have their own way. At Agra, many tourists come. Locals including guides wear traditional Indian dress and they do not bother at all what foreigners wear.
Dress code has been introduced in many states and country.Tourist cannot wear dress according to their choice. In Delhi Akshardham temple, women have to be very careful about their dress.Same thing has recently started in Kashmir. But I think this is good but in some case is not good.It is good to have dress code but how people will get to know which states or country has this restriction. All are not familiar with these system.
