No doubt that politics comes first, then it is films and cricket which seem to dominate the media attention. Shah Rukh Khan/s birthday celebration becomes national news whereas a poor farmer commiting suicide is relegated to the 5th or 6th page in small prints...It is the same with cricket and sports person.
Do they ( they print what we like and read )or rather do the reading public have their priorities right?

Actually most of the people in this world are much interested in films and cricket and next comes politics. So news people had alot of chance of making money through these subjects, especially film and cricket as people are more crazy about them
It is the same the world over...people like to see and hear about people who are better looking, more successful and wealthier than themselves. It gives them some hope and probably motivation to do better, and the media is wholly going by the TRPs.The news of Aishwariyas rai's pregnancy, birth of her daughter and the speculation over her child's name got the maximum trps and who is to blame for that ? not the media alone ..The same goes for all the sleazy detials about some of our crickets which were in news a few years ago !

Actually, people are more interested in personal news about celebrities rather than their performance. This results in movie journalists crossing limits of decency by peeping in personal life.

Very true, the recent controversy over the British royal couples pictures being splashed all over the net and french newspapers shows that there is no respect for privacy and when it comes to publicity they would go all out..
Just few months ago, a TV show was hosted by the famous Indian Cricketer, Harbhajan Singh, "Ring Ka King". It was a wrestling match. Few people in India was interested in watching such sports game. Many wrestlers were foreigners. Thus publicity was less. Once Harbhajan Singh came in focus as host, it bacame popular. This is best example.

This is obvious. Aishwarya Rai is first woman to represent India and she won "Miss World" title. She has many fans. Many girls want to be like her. Moreover she got married to famous Bachchan family. She is among one of the most powerful women in India. She is an international figure. Hence media will publish all news related with her life for her fans.

Yes Royal Families are also good concern of media and mass. In India, very few royal families exist in their usual status. Many have become street beggars. They hardly get food to eat. Such news cannot be a front page coverage. This can hamper their business.

There are plenty of film magazines and other page 3 types where her doings can be published...I am not sure if it is of national interest ? It is of interest only to her fans ...
National interest is less but publicity and fan's attraction for show business is more. National interest is counted when they do something for the countrymen.
There is no relevance of national interest in matters of interest in celebrities' activities. This is for fun. All that we need to see is that there should be nothing against national interests. Obviously, here is nothing anti national or unpatriotic.

I can understand the media highlighting a celebrity either achieving something or winning an award and putting it in the front page but personal matters however interesting they may be should not become front page news, at least thats what I feel ...

This can never be possible.
Celebrities and stars motivates Indians to prove themself and become great so that India can rise up in international platform also.
All big stars and celebrities motivate their fans and they do it for their personal interest but it makes many people move forward. People learn from their life. They learn the hardships and challenges that they have faced and they are facing even today also. This is necessary otherwise many people will remain far behind.

Many celebrities do social work . They work in many ad films and films which carry messages regarding social and religious interests of the people. They do it just for national interest. It has other face also. It increases their fans in fan club. If a commoner would speak in public, few people would listen. On the other hand if a celebrity would speak, it will be conveyed to the whole world. Here lies the difference.
They work for both entertainment and national interest of the people.

They can motivate only when they have achieved something that benefits everybody not because of their personal issues. It hardly of any interest to the common man whether an actor or actress is involved with someone or has given birth to a child. However, if a celebrity joins politics or does something that is in the best interest of the nation the media can highlight it by all means since it does concern everyone..
I think that is the case with almost all states, politics take the first place as well as local celebrity news and gossip which is given a lot of importance and of course sports news which I feel is ok as long as it is about the game and the players achievements ,much better than the film stars gossip..
