Our current experiences in life are far more imporatant than experiences in other stages of life and the importance accorded to a candidate's level of awareness of matters which are of immediate interest is fairly obvious.
Every student studies the selected subjects in school/ college and has some knowledge. The knowledge of current affairs indicate whether he has any interest in day to day events and overall national and international scenario. The good performance in current affairs indicates that the candidate is not a mere book worm.
To my mind the edit page of any reputed newspaper forms the creamy part of it and if one goes through it very carefully one can benefit immensely. The point is to make it a regular exercise. The edit page packs in both news and views of a wide range in a brief but organized manner. One should not fail to jot down any new word or use of it in his or her notebook to go through the same in future. This one of the most effective ways to stay in touch with current happenings as well as to improve one's English.
I think that best way to quickly update general knowledge on current affairs is to concentrate on headings, subheading and titles in the newspapers. Only very interesting and important news should be read in detail. This will save time and enable getting up to date with all information in lesser time. Editorials should also be thoroughly read.
I think because by asking on important topics they come to know about the person understanding with the topic, knowledge, how early understand the situation.
