Recently, the women won a case regarding getting permanent commission in army. Presently, the women get permanent commission in the AMC only. The women will now get permanent commission in all branches of army.
But the top Defence authorities are still reluctant. Not only there is physical difference but also social issues. There is no problem if men are held prisoners of war. If a woman soldier is held war prisoner, no body can protect her from maltreatment including rape. Will the women organizations and society accept this.

You had rised a good question. But I think they will not be sent to war face to be captured by enemies.
Abid- you have stated that women employed by army will not be sent to battle field so as to be captured by enemies. hence, women can be employed by Army only in services like supply, hospital, canteens and not in infantry. The women are fighting for equality with men. If this is accepted, they have to act like male soldiers and can be made prisoner by enemy. Hence, the Army Commanders are reluctant to employ them in fighting services like infantry and artillery.
Women in armed force ????As you told it will create many problems if caught as war prisoner.
Yes, Anbul. That is why I think they should be posted in branches other than infantry and artillery and given equal opportunities in those branches. I think similar problems arise with women police personnel in combating insurgents and bandits.
What about foreign countries armed force then? We have to look for a model before this development.
I don't know about the branches you mentioned Gulshan.Still I think as anbuL said we have to look what other countries do.
Anbul- The social norms in foreign countries are different. If their women soldiers are caught by enemy and even raped, maltreated and molested, there will not be a big issue like India. If the women and our society can reconcile to possibility of capture and any consequence, they may well get role like men.
Abid- I mentioned about some branches in Army, which do not directly fight but play supporting role. There is very less risk of capture by enemy in such branches. There is no difficulty in women being recruited in these.
Thanks Gulshan for sharing this.Really I have very little knowledge about the branches and ranks of defence forces.
women at war ...disgusting...what happened to all men out there.
You may not feel disgusting with women at war- Bhanu. During war, we all- men and women- some way or the other participate. Those who are behind are considered second line of defence. Even if women are not sent to battle field, they do well in supporting role in supply, office, medical and nursing. It may be recalled that during second world war, there was a woman's corps in army, called WACI- WOMEN AUXILIARY CORPS INDIA. The problem is only in sending women to the battle front if they are allowed in Infantry and artillery.
There may be some official decissions about this which may not be disclosed at present.Hope that will be in favour of women.
There is one corps in Army that is exclusively women. Military Nursing Corps consists of women only. They have ranks similar to other corps but they are not treated of equal status and not given all facilities and honor. A court Decision has been made that the officers of Military Nursing Service be given same facilities and respect as are given to other corps officers.
There is grievance in the armed forces that women want to be only officers and no body wants to work in lower ranks. If they want equality, they should also come forward for enrollment in other ranks as Jawans. In fact, there is no such demand from women organizations as well. The feasibility of employing women in lower ranks should also be looked into.

Mohammed Fouzan- You have well appreciated the real issue regarding women's entry in army. Apart from the difficulties mentioned by you in recruiting women to infantry, there will be many other problems like providing facilities of sanitation, urinals etc. especially in forward places. The male soldiers easily reconcile to any situation.
women should be kept away from real combat.well, they can actively participate in Civil duties. In real combat, there are always chances of being getting caught which will result humiliation for our people. As we know that in war enemy is not going to spare anyone whether person is male or female.
In no way , we don't allow our female soldiers to real combat.Because it is going to harm in our moral grounds.
Bhanu- You correctly stated that our moral standards are very rigid for women. If men are caught by enemy, this will not be problem. However, if women are made prisoners by enemy, their family members and others will be shocked and the woman soldier will be treated as 'spoiled'. There are double standards. As such, presently, woman cannot be recruited in infantry, tanks division or artillery and we cannot take risk of their being made prisoner of war.
women at war.....a big NO from me.Only eligible for civil duties
