It is heartening that the Govt have decided to make acceptance/ giving of capitation fee for admission of children to medical/ Engineering Colleges etc. as a cognizable offense. Education field should be free of all malpractices including money and mafia power. Members- please comment.

First I appreciate your effort to initialize this topic. We must say that capitation is like cancer. First it started for Engineering and medicine branches, now for every thing you have to pay capitation even for an LKG admission. The Government is taken a brave step to ban this capitation fees from private colleges. I feel like it should be made applicable all the education institutions from pre-primary level to the top.
Now a days education has became a business. Its like an investment.. You invest some money and look for making constant profit from it.. This should be changed..
Jobin- Very correct. Education is now a business. The rich use money power in shape of capitation fee to send their children to professional colleges even if they have no merit. This causes undue tension to their children as well who find it difficult to study. One of my close relations sent his son for hotel management course but he could complete the course in eight years instead of four in spite of all sort of gimmicks. The ban on capitation fee is certainly welcome. The other malpractices like mass copying also result from commercialization of education system.
The unvarnished truth is that education has been reduced to a commodity and stinkingly rich people manage to put some of their undeserving and unworthy wards to engineering and medical colleges which churn out substandards products which is a compromise of the worst kind with merit and quality. Thanks for highlighting it!
But Colleges will collect that money indirectly from any other source from student because now Education is the best Business opportunity for enterpriser's.
soubhagya das- I share your apprehension. The law breakers are smarter than law makers. The govt need take some more steps. One is to end the management quota. All candidates should be selected from common test.
Its true that, for a private college, management have to find money to run the institution..
But its not good to place the burden on to the students..
Jobin- it is correct that management must find money. It is also correct that students not be burdened. If students are burdened, the rich will be privileged even if they are not good at studies. What is the alternative. I suggest that education be free and compulsory up to eight and free up to highest level including professional college. The funding should be in full by Government and the Industrial houses who need to employ the students after passing out. The Government already imposes Education and Higher Education Cess @ 3% on all taxes. If the cess is not sufficient to meet the entire cost of education, this may be further increased by 2%.
I think the decision was too late since many had to pay it in past years.
Anbul- agreed that the decison is late. But better late than never.
But the Government can ask the colleges to gave back the money they took as capitation to the students. But they dont have enough courage to do so ?
