Jai Ram Ramesh has commented that old age pension of Rs. 200/- L.M. is too less and insulting.

May be he is right. This should be increased to Rs. 1,000/- P.M. with free medical facility. However, the minimum age for eligibility should be increased to seventy years. Also, the recipients should be encouraged to voluntarily work in various government welfare schemes.

They are at least contributing rs 8.66 what they think is almost one third of an average Indian spends in a day as per their recent report. remember rs 26 is enough for a day's expenses for an Indian according to our government. Is that not a joke?

It is an insult to old age people. At the age of 70 years too they are encouraged to work. Those who commented that 26/day is enough for a person to live properly don't know what they said they must be given 26/ day only and asked to spend at least a month like this may be then he could be able to understand that he was wrong. These people really are sick and they just know how to live comfortably themselves they are least bothered about others.
Really this is an insult and Rs 200 Pm is nothing,It can not be a doctors visit.
It looks as if they are not giving the pension but mocking at the old people. They must think it again.I reckon medical facilities must be free for them and they should open some centers where they can get free meals of both time that would be enough and in a month they should be allowed to purchase at least two set of clothes on government expense. :)

Your thought is really good.

I would suggest to give them 52/in place of 26/ and spend only a few days without any other help. They would know the facts. This is only people who know nothing about ground realities can speak like that.
I fear that administrative cost of distributing pension would be more than actual pension. I find that many work will even at 70 years or more. The retirement age of judges is 65 years.

It will be better to increase the pension to at least Rs. 500/- but also increase the eligibility age to 70 years.

I am not sure who would be the real beneficiaries of such schemes. They only do every thing that makes good for their own sake. All is bull sh** and political stunt nothing else.

Such schemes do not really help the needy. These are more for propaganda and vote catching.
Rs 200 Per month is nothing at all. In todays era a normal man needs 200 RS per day. Government must think before passing the pension payment. Not even single man can survive at such a low amount. It is an insult.. :(
Even if some one goes to local vegetable shop with two hundred rupees the chances are that he would not get enough vegetables for a week for a family of 2.
Rs 200 per month is nothing. This money is nothing enough for a person. Nowadays If we go to a doctor and take medicine they need atleast 500 rs. So, government should think about old senior persons and they need to increase the pension amount.
In fact this is nothing but attention catching propaganda by the powers that be, they do not know any ground realities. They would not pay those 200/ to any needy one. That would all go down the drain.
Pension should be paid to actual needy person only. There are many scheme in our country for poor.Like BPL etc. But many poor do not get the facility. There is no actual monitoring also.
It's thoroughly insulting to our senior citizens who deserve a much better deal at sunset of life!
Our lawmakers are not bothered about others as long as they have powers to increase their own pension according to their own liking despite doing almost nothing to earn it.

The unemployment benefit has been fixed at Rs. 1,000/- in U.P. Fixing old age pension much below this level is really very disgusting and insulting. Jai Ram Ramesh deserves appreciation for highlighting the issue.
People in power should bring these things in existence, just hi lighting them won't do any good to the needy ones.

In fact, nobody has absolute power. Jai Ram Ramesh is a minister but he cannot get whatever he wants. So, it is good that he has highlighted the issue of old age pension for more public debate and action by government.
I agree with you but up to an extent, how come they propose and pass any bill in jiffy while this is in their own interest. have you noticed how fast they do it while increasing their own emoluments.
