Hi Friend!

All you must have been shocked and shamed by the highly condemnable act of a fellow member who has indulged in blatant copying of a story written by another writer who has rightly condemned through comments on the home page. The title of the story is "The Church Bell...." and now my question is: how could it pass through the scrutiny of the editors of Boddunan???

It appears that the editors do not do their job properly. Otherwise, there would not be so many cases of copycats.
Thanks a lot Gulshan for responding to this issue and giving your free and franks views so conscientiously. I am very disappointed with the silence on the part of most of the members who have viewed this but have chosen to maintain silence on this grave issue. It shows the entire Boddunan Editorial Team in poor light. Those of us who endeavour honestly to make it one of the best sites have a right to know why such a scandalous thing has happened and who is behind this sloppy performance.
I had commented some time back that deduction of points or some other penal action is unavoidable for preventing blatant copy and paste. Some members had opposed this suggestion. I still feel that showing any leniency in this regard or lethargy of editors will leave us nowhere.
You are absolutely right. If we are to depend on some outside source to come to know of copycats and their contribution it reflects very poorly.God knows how many such articles exist in our articlebase. One more thing used to strike me a lot which is the language on the part of some members who contribute articles and the same which they use in forum. If someone's grammar could be that good when he or she writes articles, why it can't be the same when he or she expresses in forum. This glaring anomaly has not put the editors of boddunan on guard.
I agree. Very good point raised by chinmoymukherjee. The standard of language and style of any one in forum and articles can not be very different. So an easy method to detect possible copying is to compare the writing on forum to that in articles. This will give clue for further probe.

Great point. Every one has to think about this.
Three or four Months ago I felt a doubt and informed the moderator the matter. As ceeem told above I felt doubt due to the same.Moderator informed that he will take care, but it came out now only
Guys.. sorry for the late entry.

The article that you mentioned was deleted yesterday. However I would like to mention few points here.

The original author of this article contacted us about the situation and gave us the URL.

We found that it is on Orkut and it does not allow us to view it unless we logged into it.

Now please tell me how the editors can be blamed for a resource copied which is not available on anywhere.

And another point I have to mention that the copycat(his account deleted and banned permanently) copied that article right after it is posted on orkut an it is not found anywhere.
Here is the URL

Do you mean to say that Lohit Seth has been banned. Dont do that yaar let us give him a chance to prove himself once.
I am agree with Jayen.
He should be given one more chance..
Hi Maverick!

Going through your reply I find that you have not questioned the existence of the article on orkut and the mere fact that it is not accessible unless one logs in,is not going to be of any help in a legal battle in future. You have tried to absolve the editors of any role in this regard, then who is going to be held accountable. Let an expert in Cyber law comment on this. The guilty used boddunan's platform. All these I am saying because the laws in this regard are getting stricter and stricter and all the governments are contemplating tougher legal actions against copyright infringements.

@Jayen,Sameer

The copycat related issue raised in this thread has nothing to do with Lohit as he owned it up in a separate thread and promised to be fair in his dealings in future.
But I think some strict action like degradation of member level , full point and cash credit withdrawal etc are required for such illegal activities from a gold member.

I guess banning permanently is much strict action than anything else. However, giving one more chance to the people who comes forward and accept their mistakes before some one points out does not harm any one. I think it is a good sign as well.
Thank you Maverick for explaining the technical problem in detection of copied text from Orkut and action taken against the copycat. Apparently, copying from Orkut has been discovered first time. Some way has to be found now to avoid such copying in future. many of us have ORKUT account and some may be tempted to copy from there, if detection is not possible.

Ok...but I think the lack of some strict action is the reason behind repetition in recent days by different members.

The only strict action we can take is banning. If you ban one person, he can create another account and do the same practice again. Instead if we can give him another chance and give him an opportunity, he might become a valuable member to boddunan family. Of course a continuous monitoring on his further activity is needed.

There is a drawback on both sides but thinking positively doesn't do any harm unless it is out of limits.
Ok...I am not a man to appeal any action. It is the team Boddunan to take decission.I agree with your point above.
Let us be very clear about our goal which is definitely to root out this malaise of copying someone's work word for word, denying him the credit and fruits of his or her hard work. Now coming to the question of deciding on the right course to fight this menace,it is for boddunan to think of effective means - be it through active intervention or tolerance and the degree of tolerance.Advocating firm measures is also an exercise in positive thinking!
