Sharad Pawar favors non political President. Is this not funny. President performs political functions. Why should the incumbent be non political?
If so, why not non political ministers, parliamentarians and legislators?

As soon as one is elected to the post, he becomes non political, whether he likes or not.
President performs political functions. so, he is political. Appointment of council of ministers, administrating oath to Prime minister and other ministers, signing ordnance, giving assent to bills passed by parliament- all these are political functions. President can never be non political.
even if a President is not from a political party, he is supposed to have knowledge about functioning of government, parliament, constitution etc. All this is political. even Kalam was not non political even before appointment as President. He was senior officer of Government and very much part of bureaucracy without whose help politician cannot work.
