I think they are planning to hike the fair. I am expecting them to increase basic facilities for passengers.

My expectations are very basic and yet I know I am going to be disappointed once again. I expect that there is enough provision in the budget to keep all the railway stations clean and provide clean, potable drinking water in all the railway stations!
I expect more safety measures, more general class compartments and senior citizens, handicapped compartments. There should be concession for handicapped or blind but senior citizens and ladies need no concession in fare. Rather they need better facilities and safety. There should also be an ambulance coach in each long journey train with qualified doctor, staff and other facilities.

Yes, absolutely!!!
Many of the long running trains when reach Thiruvananthapuram, don't even have water and about its cleanliness, it is better not to mention. Yes, many of the basic needs are yet to be improved.
The Indian Railways is facing acute funds crunch and I don't see how it is going to overcome it. Corruption, inefficiency, tall promises and little action on the ground are some of the familiar problems and every Railway Minister uses this grand occasion to befool us.This time a moderate hike in passenger fares is very much on cards!
I do not except much more I only want there should be ticket available on urgent basis. I always feel afraid whether I will get ticket confirm or not. Other facilities are secondary things.
They say, they need 1 lac 40 thousand crores to keep railways going but are getting around 1lac as revenue and to top it all they have to pay 50 thousand crores to Union government. So there is nothing much they can do but to hike the fair. Why can't they stop corruption to increase revenue?
I think Safety should get the first priority than new train.
My expectation is that they don't increase much fare of sleeper and general category as the people who travell in these categories can't afford much if they could then they would have prefferd airlines. :)

I only hope the hike is moderate and not very high! Now only the railway tickets are cheaper compared to other modes of transportation and very poor people can still afford to buy them!
The railway Budget has been presented. The Railway Minister has announced hike in fare in all classes despite direction to contrary by his party organization head. According to him, railway needs Rs. 14 lakh crore in next ten years for implementing several schemes.

Railway has good budget and money but still general public not able to get ticket at the time of requirement.
Friends I aspect a lot from this budget. However before going deep into those points, railways should change the quality of food provided to the passangers in the trains. Secondly, railway accidents should be checked which was frequent previous year.
Fare increased in all class but very minimum .After all this is a good budget.

Ever increasing population is the cause of rush at ticket window, reservation counter. Number of passengers increases constantly and any increase in Railway tracks, number of trains and bogies does not help. This is true everywhere- roads, schools, hospitals etc.

Fare increased.....
Many trains are announced at every railway budget. How much time will it take to implement new trains?
Every railway minister implements the announcements mostly in his/her own areas, rest go to bite the dust.
At a glance:
Trivedi announced that passenger fare for sub-urban trains hiked by 2 paisa per km, mail trains by 3 paisa per km. Express train fares are up by 5 paisa per km, 10p per km for a/c chaircar, 10p per km for a/c 3-tier, 15 p per km for a/c 2-tier and 30p per km for a/c 1st class.
