As Raghavan Krishnamurthy said in his previous thread I have started a thread on Budget news.

The first being the Railway Budget. I have added a few important points on the Railway budget which was announced in the parliament yesterday. Hope you will be benefitted.

Railway budget statewise:

Andhra Pradesh-After a long gone 10 years neglect

After a long time Andhra Pradesh (AP) has got some relaxed allocations in the Railway budget of 2010-11. Let's see the important things in it.

1. Secunderabad has got a Railway wagon Manufacturing Unit and a Sport's academy.

2. Vijayawada has got new Train lines and extensions and also a doubling line Vijayawada-Gudivada-Machilipatnam is also sanctioned.

3. The famous Pilgrim center Tirupati has benefitted a lot from the Railway budget as of whole where 3 intercity trains connecting Madurai, Bengauluru and Secunderabad. The lines of Nandyala –Erraguntla, Jagtiyal-Nizamabad, Ghadwal- Raichur and Vishnupuram-Johnpahad are assured of being completed by 2011.
TAMIL NADU:

1) 14 new trains have been proposed

2) New train between Chennai and Coimbatore - ‘Duronto’.The Chennai – Coimbatore Duronto Express will be a day time point to point service between the two cities which will be cheaper and faster compared to Rajdhani Express, according to the Minister.

3) Other new Trains in the budget for TN includes,

i) Nagercoil- Bangalore Express via Madurai and Hosur
ii) Tiruchirapalli – Mangalore (Weekly) Express
iii) Coimbatore – Tirupati Intercity (Tri-weekly) Express via Salem
iv) Madurai - Tirupati ( Bi-weekly) Express
v) Howrah – Katpadi (Vellore) – Puducherry (Weekly) Express
vi) Haldia – Chennai (Weekly) Express
vii) Chennai - New Jalpaiguri (Weekly) Express
viii) Tiruchendur -Tirunelveli Passenger
ix) Mayiladuthurai – Thanjavur Passenger
x) Coimbatore – Pollachi Passenger (after gauge conversion) and main line EMU services between Coimbatore and Erode
xi) Tirupati and Chennai via Nellore and between Salem and Katpadi.

4) "Bharat Tirth" a tourist train will connect tourist cities like Madurai,, Rameswaram, Kanyakumari with Mantralayam, Varanasi, Mysore, Goa.

5) Minister also promied new lines for the following , before the next financial year.

i) Nagapattinam to Velankanni
ii) Portion between Salem and Namakkal of Salem – Karur project iii)Nagore to Karaikal
iv) auge conversion of Tirunelveli – Tenkasi
v)Mayiladuthurai – Tiruvarur
vi) Dindigul –Palani sections.

6) The Ministry decided to take up the preliminary engineering-cum-traffic survey for dedicated freight corridors for North -South ( Delhi- Tamil Nadu) and South-South (Tamil Nadu – Goa).

7) Multi-functional complexes will be set up in Erode, Nagercoil, Salem, Tiruchi Fort, and Tiruttani stations. The Ministry decided to enhance passenger comforts and other facilities in Tiruvarur station.

8) To meet the increasing demand of passenger coaches, Integral Coach Factory, Perambur, will be modernised and a second unit will be set up to equip itself for manufacturing technologically upgraded coaches from its present level of about 1500 coaches. A sports academy will be set up in Chennai along with Delhi, Secunderabad, Kokatta and Mumbai to strengthen sports infrastructure.
Karnataka:

Karnataka is the first State in the country to come forward to take up railway projects on cost sharing basis. The Government plans to spend Rs.2,529.80 crore in the next five years for such projects. This year alone, we plan to spend Rs.600 crore towards cost sharing projects.
Sanctioning of five new routes namely Talaguppa-Honnavara, Shimoga-Harihara, Whitefield-Kolar, Tumkur-Davanagere, Hospet-Hubli-Londa (Double Line) during this years is a welcome step.
The Government had requested for 19 new trains during this year, out of which only the 10 following new trains have been sanctioned.

The decision to hold simultaneous examinations including the local languages in recruitment and extending free journey facility to the Cancer Patients and introduction of separate trains for women, making available e-ticketing facilities in the Grama Panchayaths etc. are steps in the right direction. Kerala:


Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has proposed new trains in the Railway Budget 2010 for Kerala.

The new trains announced for the state are:


Kozhikode - Trivandrum Janasatabdi Express

Pune - Eranakulam Superfast Express

Kanyakumari-Bhopal Expree via Kerala

Mumbai-Eranakulam Thurant Train

Nilampur-Shornur Passenger

Orissa:

The following are the new train lines that have been allocated:



* Phulbani-Berhampur
* Jeypore-Malkangiri
* Raipur-Jharsuguda
* Puri-Konark
* Nabarangpur-Jeypore



Here are the new Trains announced for Orissa in the Railway Budget 2010:

* Puri-Howrah Duranto Express
* Ahmedabad-Puri-Kolkata- Varanasi-Ujjain-Ahmedabad (Bharat Tirtha train)
* Bhubaneswar-Pune weekly express
* Sambalpur- Howrah weekly express
* Baripada- Shalimar Express (tri-weekly)
* Puri-Valsad weekly express via-Katni-Bhopal-Vadodara
* Puri-Digha weekly express
* Bhubaneswar- Khurda Road passenger
* Naupada- Gunupur passenger (after gauge conversion)
We also have constrains for writing the railway exams in our mother tongue itself and there is a train being allocated from Pondy to Kolkatta
BIHAR

The Railway Board has approved the proposal of setting up locomotive manufacturing units at Madhepura and Marhora (Chhapra). These projects were announced by former railway minister Lalu Prasad.
9 out of 54 new trains announced by Mamata Banerjee to start from or touch Bihar.

* Fatuha-Islampur and Bakhtiarpur-Rajgir rail sections to be electrified.

* Inclusion of Gaya and Patna Sahib in the ‘Bharat Tirth’ tourist train routes into the state. The trains are:

GUJARAT

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee in her budget speech today announced several Gujarat related new trains and also some technical initiatives.

One Gujarat related passenger train declared

Bhildi(Banaskatha district)-Samadari(in Rajasthan near Jodhpur) passenger train has been proposed in the budget but with a footnote that it would be operational after gauge conversion.

Among new long-distance services proposed in connection with Gujarat are:

Ahmedabad-Agra express Tri-weekly

Puri-Valsad express(weekly) via Katni-Bhopal-Vadodara

Rajkot-Porbandar express(via Jetalsar) Tri-weekly

Valsad-Haridwar express(weekly)

Gandhidham-Jodhpur express(via Bhildi) Tri-weekly

Two Bharat Teerth trains are Gujarat related:

Ahmedbaad-Puri-Kolkata-Gangasagar-Varanasi-Allahabad-Indore-Omkareshwar-Ujjain-Ahmedabad

Bhopal-Dwarka-Somnath-Udaipur-Ajmer-Jodhpur-Jaipur-Mathura-Vrindavan-Amritsar-Jammu Tavi-Bhopal


One Janma Bhoomi train for Gujarat
The newly announced Janmabhoomi train would cover areas of Rajasthan and Punjab on route to Udhampur.

HARYANA


The Railway Budget proposed the setting up of
Out Patient Departments (OPD) and diagnostic centres at Bahadurgarh, Ballabhgarh, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jind, Kalka, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Rohtak and Sonipat.

In addition, secondary-level general speciality hospitals have been proposed at Ambala Cantt, Jind, Kurukshetra and Sonipat.

Also, tertiary-level multi-specialty hospital will be established at Rewari and the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana would be extended to all licensed porters, vendors and hawkers, who are from the unorganised sector and are socially challenged.

WEST BENGAL


Among projects announced today, several important ones went to West Bengal, which goes to polls in 2011. These include -

Coach Factory at Singur (provided land is available);

Excellence Centre in Wagon Prototyping in Railway Workshops at Kharagpur;

Rail Axle Factory at New Jalpaigiri;

Centre for Rail Research at IIT Kharagpur;

Shambhu Mitra Cultural Complex at Howrah;

State of the Art Loco Pilot Training Centre at Kharagpur,

Advanced Rail Track Training Centre at Beleghata.
RAJASTHAN


Among the new trains, major ones are:

bi-weekly Duranto Express from Jaipur to Mumbai

four Bharat Teerth trains connecting several pilgrimage centres to the religious places in Rajasthan like Ajmer and Nathdwara.

Also

New Janmbhoomi train connecting Ahmedabad and Punjab covering interiors of Rajasthan.

Apart from that, 9 express trains and two passenger trains.

The express trains include a bi-weekly Hyderabad-Ajmer, thrice-a-week Ahmedabad-Agra, weekly Jaipur-Pune and a weekly Kolkata-Ajmer Express.

Setting up of multi-functional complexes at Abu Road, Kishangarh and Sikar along with setting up of OPD and diagnostic centre - one each at Medta Road, Naguar, Pali Marwar and Rani, besides opening three-tier multi- speciality hospitals at Bandikui and Rewari.

Also proposed to initiate rail connectivity in socially desirable areas like Ajmer-Kota, Deoli-Tonk-Sakatpura and Nokha-Sikar among others.

UTTAR PRADESH

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has expressed shock at the state being overlooked at the cost of other states like West Bengal and Maharashtra in the Rail Budget.

New railway lines have been proposed for:

Etawah-Mainpuri,

Amethi-Shahganj,

Amethi-Sultanpur

Sambhal-Gajraula.
HIMACHAL PRADESH

Broad gauge line to be extended upto Mandi, linking it to Kiratpur-Leh Railway lines.

Parwanoo-Daralaghat railway lines and extension of Ranital to Kangra.

The fifth railway line extension: Baddi-Nalagarh-Kal-Amb-Paonta Sahib.
Budget General info:

1) Revenue last year - Rs. 6000 crores, and planning to get more than 10 to 20 crores during the next financial year.

2) New train to Bangladesh, in the name of Rabindaranath Tagore, in order to mark his 150th birth anniversary.

3) Ex serviceman will be used for Railway security.

4) 110 new trains to Mumbai Suburban alone.

5) For freight transport, RF ID technology will be used.

6) More tourist trains across 18 routes.

7) Sportsperson will get concession.
MAHARASHTRA

101 new suburban trains in Mumbai, no fare hike and holding railway recruitment exams in local language.

Getting maximum railway projects for the state.

The wagon repair unit proposed at Badnera in Vidarbha region would help locals get jobs.

However, will set up business model -- need of the hour is to invite domestic investments through PPPs.

Only 10,419 km of railways added between 1958 and now.

Vision 2020 goals broken up in to short, medium and long term projects. The latter two will require funds and can be done in 5 years.

Mission is continuous development and goal is to unite the country through railway connectivity

Budget made keeping in mind the economic viability of the projects as well as social responsibility.
JHARKHAND

New trains for Jharkhand:

Ranchi – Jaynagar (tri-weeky)

Tatanagar- Hatia Passenger via Chandil

Purulia and Muri

Dhanbad- Jhargram (via Purulia) Passenger

Ghatshila- Howrah Passenger and Guwahati- Mumbai (weekly) via Tatanagar

Jharsududa and Bilaspur.

The Bhubaneshwar- Hatia Garib Rath has been extended up to Dhanbad.
All the remaining states were less privileged and were not that much mentioned in the Railway budget. Hope all this comes real and the much said vision 2020 becomes a truth..


Railway has proposed INR 41,426 crore, the highest ever plan investment to provide efficient, customer focused and modern railway network. Out of this allocation, INR 4,411 crore has been proposed to achieve the target of 1,000 kilometers for new lines and INR 1,302 crore for passenger amenities. The Plan would be financed through gross budgetary support of INR 15,875 crore, Diesel Cess of INR 877 crore, internal resources of INR 14,523 crore and EBR of INR 10,151 crore including market borrowing through IRFC of INR 9,120 crore.
