In my state, most festivals of temples/churches/mosques are conducted from February to maximum, May 15th.....i.e. Summer season. Monsoon will come at May end.
What about your state and your festivals and celebrations belong to which season/months?

No Sunil, it is not gulmohar...amaltās in Hindi

check this link.....it has only yellow colour flowers, some derivatives too. Red colour flowers never......
Those red flowers blossom at March-April-May months. So, we indicate them as symbol of parting of college days/college love :(
Would you care to check this wiki page please?

But where is yellow colour flower??
I have seen a yellow flower tree similar to Gulmohar, but it is not our 'Konna'.
This tree is not commonly seen in northern states...I believe so.
Though these two plants come under same family, Fabacaea...they are entirely different, in flower shape, colour, odour, size etc. Only one similarity is there - both trees blossom in Summer in Kerala
Cassia fistula is our state flower....also national flower of Thailand
They are lined up in front of my house one yellow one red formation, planted by horticulture deptt. They both are Gulmohar red and yellow. Yes they blossom starting March to whole summer.
Ya...I have told you earlier...in Kerala, we can see gulmohar both in red and yellow colours. But it is entirely different from Cassia.....tree structure itself.
Sunil...can you clear me one doubt.
Here, during those months, trees/flowers similar to gulmohar but pink-2-3 varieties also blossom. Really beautiful. What is its name in Hindi or English? They also belong to gulmohar category??????? I think so, because tree structure and also flower structure have close similarities......colour is in dark pink shades...2 or 3 variations.
Do you have any idea.....???
I want its pictures...but can't get it since I don't know its name. :)
But this page is opening very easily at my end. I just copied a line from there also.

No need to go there as I saw some trees right now but there are no flowers may be we can get some in couple of days.Besides this is odd hour for photos may be i shall try tomorrow. Not sure though.
Really!!!
What a sincere friend....
I came there on April 1st 2010....and those trees near the roads were filled with pink flowers.
Due to climatic variations, it may have occurred. Still...I will wait for that photos....I think, light violet flowers are also there.

Actually this is beginning of March, so I saw no flowers on these trees, but I will go around to find some trees which would/may have flowers. This is dark out side now. I live in one of the best areas, near white field, where there are lots of flower's trees and parks are situated.
Onam is the harvest festival.(Paddy fields are harvested first this month) I think August-September is the spring season of Kerala. Most trees and natural plants flower this time. So, onam can be named as the seasonal festival of Kerala.
Vishu is celebrated when Kani Konna flowers on the first day of Medam month. Most frequently it is celebrated on April 14. In this season fruits ripen. So such fruits are used for 'Vishu kani'.
