It is actually Vinod's idea to start such a thread. Just a difference that I am starting this one, on behalf of him. :)
Let us learn some simple and common words of some languages. I think, we can get only Indian words.
As life is a big canvas of different colours, let us start our learnings with different shades of colours.
I am quoting some colours giving meaning in English. Please add your word in your mother tongue. I think, by this way, we can learn at least 7-8 languages. Am I not right?
I am starting with colours. After sometime, another member should start another set of words in his language and we people give its word in our mother tongue. Hoping this thread will continue as a game and not dissappear from our forum very soon.

Ok. I am giving Malayalam names of colours
COLOURS IN MALAYALAM CALLED NIRAM(SINGULAR) AND NIRANGAL(PLURAL)
White - Vella, Velupp
Black - Karupp
Green - paccha
Blue - Neela
Red - Chuvapp
Orange - Orange
Rose - Rose
Brown - Brown
Violet - Violet
Yellow - Manja...(Sorry can't pronounce it correctly, it reads as Tamil)
Meroon - Meroon
Can you add your colours to this thread, to make it more colorful?

But Kamal is pink in colour. Your Kamala is orange :woohoo:

Chinmayjee you have added almost all Bengali words to colour. But I and Balachander added some English words :laugh: :laugh:
I don't think if common words are there for violet, orange, rose etc....in Malayalam.
Let Abid answer them.

unty-kakima,mami,jethima (Maami---aunty, Kunjamma...younger sister of mother, Valiyamma.....elder sister of mother)
brother-bhai......Sahodaran.....(Aniyan-younger one)....(Chettan...elder one)
sister-bone.......Sahodari(pengal).....(Aniyathi-younger one)....(Chechi...elder one)

We call all elders (just a few years old) as Chettan and chechi
