It is actually Vinod's idea to start such a thread. Just a difference that I am starting this one, on behalf of him. :)
Let us learn some simple and common words of some languages. I think, we can get only Indian words.
As life is a big canvas of different colours, let us start our learnings with different shades of colours.
I am quoting some colours giving meaning in English. Please add your word in your mother tongue. I think, by this way, we can learn at least 7-8 languages. Am I not right?
I am starting with colours. After sometime, another member should start another set of words in his language and we people give its word in our mother tongue. Hoping this thread will continue as a game and not dissappear from our forum very soon.

Thanks for the idea. I think, apart from Indian languages, we should also learn Spanish and French. both of these help to improve any writer's resume. Even students and employed people can benefit as a foreign language knowledge is value addition to one's C.V.

Quite an idea! I believe Indians are advantageously placed in this regard being multi-lingual! I must appreciate Sandhya's unique efforts in this regard. Everyone must contribute to make it an enriching, learning experience. Thank you,Sandhya!

Sorry Chinmayjee....
This idea was actually Vinod's. We two decided it together, that's all. :)

Let us now begin some simple sentences
What is your name?
Ninte peru enthaanu?.......(asking to younger people)(Tu....in Hindi)
Ningalude (Thaandalude) peru enthaanu? ...(asking to elders or seniors)(Tum And Aap respectively)
Pronunciation is little confusing  Of course it is not the country 'Peru'.
Malayalam has two individual letters for pronouncing 'Ra' i.e...Ravan/Raath and Iran

Here use/pronounce 'ra' as Ravan. I am hoping all can understand :)

My name is Sandhya......Ente peru Sandhya.
I am Sandhya........Jnan Sandhya

"Ami to...." something like that
There are three forms - Tor,Tomar and Apnar!

Tor is used in an informal way and interestingly this form could be used both disparagingly as well as lovingly - for example a person of low status could be asked for his name like: Tor naam ki? - What is your name - the same could be used in relation to young ones in the family.

Tomar is formal - Tomar naam ki? Amar naam Sandhya Rani!

Apnar is strictly formal and should be used in relation to elders and persons deserving by virtue of their poistion of respect- official or other wise!

Ebar Sandhya Rani bhujlen to? ( Sandhya Rani, Have you got it this time?{CJATTACHMENT ["id": 5685]}

What about others? Where are you?
