It is actually Vinod's idea to start such a thread. Just a difference that I am starting this one, on behalf of him. :)
Let us learn some simple and common words of some languages. I think, we can get only Indian words.
As life is a big canvas of different colours, let us start our learnings with different shades of colours.
I am quoting some colours giving meaning in English. Please add your word in your mother tongue. I think, by this way, we can learn at least 7-8 languages. Am I not right?
I am starting with colours. After sometime, another member should start another set of words in his language and we people give its word in our mother tongue. Hoping this thread will continue as a game and not dissappear from our forum very soon.

So Valare nanni means thank you.Is it?
In my bengali laguage we say Dhanyabad.
Dhanyabad bone.
@Sandhya

That's good! First let us frame a few commonly used complete sentences which can prove handy when we visit these states!

Nanni....(Sorry can't write in English with correct pronounciation), You know Malayalam is a difficult language. Yet I tried.
Valare means Extremely....i.e . I added an adjective to it.

Friends.....I got only two replies of colours. What about others?
Hindi....I know. Yet, I want someone else to quote them. Also...relations.... :)

What is the Bengali word of Colour...Is it rang?
Yes in Bengali colour means rang and the different name of rang already posted by Chinmoy Dada in your previous post.
You are right ,Sandhya!

I think Bengali and Hindi have close resemblance. But Bengalis add a 'be' in everything...also, for most pronunciations of 'a' they do it as 'o' like prosad for prasad. Am I right? :P
I think, I have learned basics of Bengali :woohoo:

In Kannada language everything end with 'lu'. So, we often add a 'lu' to Malayalam words to make it Kannada in a funny way

I think Mama and Mami is same for all Indian languages
Thanks for the idea. I think, apart from Indian languages, we should also learn Spanish and French. both of these help to improve any writer's resume. Even students and employed people can benefit as a foreign language knowledge is value addition to one's C.V. It will help in good placement offers for technical students and promotions in the official hierarchy for people working in the private sector.
