Pornography or porn is the depiction of explicit sexual subject matter for the purposes of sexual excitement.Pornography may use any of a variety of media, ranging from books, magazines, postcards, photos, sculpture, drawing, painting, animation, sound recording, film, video, or video game. However, when sexual acts are performed for a live audience, by definition it is not pornography, as the term applies to the depiction of the act, rather than the act itself. Thus, portrayals such as sex shows and striptease are not classified as pornography.
Freedom of expression is of paramount importance in a democratic country. The government should work for administration of the affairs of nation in accordance with mandate and constitution of India. Spirit of democracy lies in leaving it to the people to decide what they want to eat, wear and enjoy. Banning any type of literature, film or media- even if pornograp0hic- is undemocratic and infringement on rights of people. It is not job of government or the ruling circles to prescribe what is good for people. The government must have no authority to restrict pornography. sex is an important and inseparable component of life and its depiction in art in the name of banning pornography is not acceptable. It is also an undisputed fact that pornography is not necessarily obscene. The caves of Ajanta and Elora testify this view. In case any sort of censor is required, this should be by citizens committee consisting of artists, jurists and other eminent people from different walks of life. There can be some reasonable precautions like giving warning that the material may be offensive to some or this contains adult content. Restriction may also be on basis of age.

Yes, I do believe that all porn should be banned. BUT The problem then becomes defining what porn is. This is where we run into trouble. One person's porn could very well be another person's art. Here is what I consider to be a pretty good working definition of porn. Porn is any written or visual media that is produced and/or viewed with the intent to produce sexual arousal. That is a pretty simple definition, but it relies on intent. This is where we run into trouble. I think that we can agree that there is a lot of material that is obviously pornographic in nature.
So it is obviously impossible to ban pornography which has its roots all over the world.

There is also a lot of material that is just as obviously not pornographic. However, there is a very broad gray areain between these two groups.
For example, the photos in a lingerie catalog are not produced specifically to cause sexual arousal. They are produced to sell the lingerie. However, this does not stop someone from using the catalog to get aroused. Similarly, there is a great deal of classical art that is intended to celebrate the human form. The artist may not have been thinking sexually when he produced it, but others may view it in that context. On the other hand, I saw something recently in which someone was trying to take a bunch of artistic and decorative objects that had absolutely nothing to do with sex and turn them into phallic symbols. So, where do we draw the line between art and porn? Legally, there is no way to really do this. So, while I may like to ban all porn, I recognize that such ban would be very difficult to enact in a way that would not infringe upon legitimate art.

Hi Devigan,
I don't agree to your view.I think pornography should be banned. But complete ban is not required, instead there should have a screening to the sites.
Today internet is used for good purpose as well as bad purposes. One of the bad purpose is this ponographic sites.According to them it is their business and in a business some looks morality while some does not.For education purpose some sites may be retained. But those sites with excessive ponographic content should be permanantly banned and deleted.

I agree with you only on this. The same freedome is there for all to lead a healthy and moral life.Man should not be like animals. He has a culture. He should have shame to do sex in open unlike animals. So he should also have shame to look at others immoral activities and should rise his hand to prevent them.Else as you told if it is his right as a citizen , a nation cannot exist because all human activities will be explained as his needs.
By Democracy it does not mean he has right to do anything. He has some rights and some restrictions.he has to obey them all.In autocracy he has no right , only restrictions. That is the difference.
So for the well being of a nation crimes should be reduced. Most of the sexual crimes comes after viewing sites like this and hence it should be banned.

Anu_love is life - Rightly stated porn cannot be banned. first problem is of defining it. The stage of permissiveness changes from time to time. Kissing was not allowed in earlier films. Now this is more common. The exposure of body is now more permissible. Actually porn lies not in the content but in the mindset. The Jain Sadhus are nude. Many hermits just wear a langoti that does not cover the hind portion of their body. Only frontal portion is covered. Moreover, this is a sheer waste of time in dealing with such matters, when the government has more important jobs- like eradication of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment. There are millions who have no clothes to wear. Then bothering about nudity, obscenity and pornography is of no use.
I would readily support banning Porn because today's children are getting spoiled because of this pornography. Many innocent children, ladies and girls are thrown mericlessly into this business where the main person earns crores...
What does it fetch you...nothing people basic needs are denied but you need porn to make them happy...Can you suffice people with just porn sites..Healthy mind and healthy body are more important in this country where AIDS rate is more...
BUT THE QUESTION IS: IT IS ACTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE SUCH ACTION IMMEDIATELY...

Abid- Watching pornography by those interested in the act in no way hurts others. Of course, it will be wrong to display pornographic material before the unwilling or the minors. Law should come in play only when coercion or fraud is committed against fellow citizens or the nation. Making of pornographic works for use of the willing adults does not cause injury either on the society or any citizens. Thus, banning pornography is definitely undemocratic.

Suiciding is a crime in India and making to suicide is also a crime.I think by the first act he had left from the world and the second person makes him to leave the world.Actually a more degreed crime than this is allowing the ponographic sites.
Through ponographic sites many lead a floating life. Many eagerly looks for chances as seen in the sites and their minds get turned into a criminal one.In a mixed society like India it is not good to exhibit all these through internet. It will destroy all our traditions and culture.
As you told kisses and body parts exhibition are coming to light now.Why they were behind curtain so far?Man was shame to do them in open. Now we adopted some western culture and our shame gone away.Remember animals have no shame and they copulate at midroad. If a day comes like that for men also in future no wonder in that.

Abid Areacode wrote that internet is widely used that's correct however keep in mind if anything is found new there will be advantage as well as disadvantage.
For example:
If a children are being taught of sex education in school and parents discuss with their children they will not try to experiment it. You know why many of the youngsters are spoiled it is because you keep restriction and as a human mentality they try to figure it what is there in it and they indulge themselves in all kind of mall practices

Well first of all thanks for bringing this topic for discussion in a social network like this one.
I would like to further break this question into pieces and express my opinion on them. So here they go:
1) What is ponograghy?
I think though there is no exact definition of this word. but any human being irrespective of any caste, creed or language knows this what we are talking about here.
One distinction that can be made between sex and ponography is that sex is between two mutually acceptable individuals assenting to it. Whereas ponography just like drugs is rather a dirty commercial business carried out by some handful of dirty people for their own good at the cost of lives of others giving rise to slavery, unfaithfulness, and spreading of a decease/poison in the society called betrayal.
2) Is it good or bad?
It is bad as most of you will agree. The reason why i think it is bad is because just like alcohol once it is seen or consumed it addicts the victim. It definitely has bad psychological effect on its victim. Kids are its soft victims. If gone unchecked for a long period of time it may destroy ones character or career of a student. My opinion over here are backed by scientific research which can be easily be accessed on the net.
3)Can it be substituted as a tool for educating sex?
No by any means. I think my answer is well understood.
4)Has this been banned in other countries?
Yes. For e.g. Dubai has banned it. However, i think there are no proof of how successful they are in doing this. Nor there can be any unit of measurement to measure the same.
After going through all the discussions posted here. I m of the opinion that it is virtually impossible to ban it.
At the end of the day this can be possibly reduced but cannot be stopped.
Rather than banning it, i think it should be declared as a decease. And just like other deceases people should be made aware of its ill effect on their health, pshycology, family and kids. Also clear distinction should be made between sex and ponography.
After such awareness i am sure most of the people will start avoiding such things. Not only that a new site on sex education should be opened by Govt itself wherein access to such site should be based on election card number. As all of you know that election cards are issued only one who attends adult age as per constitution of India.
This will solve dual purpose of people automatically register for election cards.
The various other products/deceases that have been reduced through awareness are alcohol, aids, etc.
SO RATHER BANNING IT DECLARE IT AS A DECEASES! WHAT SAY

Okay fine it can be answered as
* The father will trash the son and will cut his pocket money and keeps an eye on him and go behind him where he goes or put strict rules and regulations. This is one way of handling such situation
* The father takes his son to a place where the crowd is less or to his room and sits next to him and tells his son what are you doing is wrong and explains the side effects and disadvantages about smoking in a polite manner. This is one way of handling the situation
