Humiliation that Aussie cricket team has heaped upon us gives rise to this question in our mind. We have have been richly fed on stories in th press about our supremacy in a game which is played by not more than a dozen nations which has reduced other sports to the status of 'pariah'! i think the question must be?"

"are our cricketers being lionised by the press?"
Swetha can you please explain me what is meant by loinising about cricket. This is the first time am hearing it.
Sarala,

lionised is nothing but putting too much attention to something or someone.

Chinmoy ji is saying that our cricketrs are being put into too much attention by the media (saying this person is great that person is great)

so when we dont do well in cricket like the australian game, is it justifiable by the media?
Cricket is the unpredictable game,so if a cricketer or team does good they will be appreciate of their performance but if they won't do well they will be critised.
Sarala, lionising someone means to make them great heroes than they actually deserve.

It is true that the media is playing a major role in doing so, especially since we have won the recent World Cup! In spite of such adulation and crores of money being heaped upon them in rewards, they have failed miserably and the entire Australian episode is shameful and humiliating! I think it is high time to divert from cricket and pay more attention to other more interesting games.

The recent news bit was even more shameful that girls' hockey team was awaiting transport somewhere with the trophy they had won! And to think that these cricketers get 5-star treatment in spite of so many losses! Shameful indeed!
It not the mistake of media. We people have made this sport so famous that other sports doen't dares to come in our heart.

Let's not forget it starts from the media. It is said that tell a lie a million times and it becomes a truth. Same is the case with media, show a person a hundred times on the channel and he becomes a hero, same applies to the game.
@Swetha

At the moment they are not being lionised! Rather the same press has gone into overdrive in projecting them as villains!!!

yes, it is true,. media makes simple person to hero and if the same media thinks then, a hero will become zero. anything media can do.
Media shows those material which we like the most,so ultimately its the people who have forced the media to show those content.
It is not only media, but also companies who have put Indian team in heaven, even when they are not deserving it.All is about business. Nothing more.

Media create both heroes and zeroes. Months before, they were placing Indian Cricket team in heaven. But now placed in hell. If, in next series, India do well, they forget everything and will start to write praising songs to them.

All it can be done now is, leave Indian Team to its fate. Also, all ad-companies should leave them. Then only, they will learn from their mistakes.

It happened during last world cup also. When they felt alone, they rose as phoenix and won 20-20 world cup, a lot of series, No.1 position in Test rank and last, but not the least, World cup.

I think all should leave them. Then only, some progress can occur.
Media is creating too much hype about cricketers.......just one good match from the Indian cricket team........and the media will be flooded by praise.......
The role of media in a democracy in educating and forming enlightened opinions about issues which concern us is too great and unfortunately the press in general seems to be more interested in creating news of sensational kind which is dangerous!
Media always concentrate to the news which will get more attention.
The last episode in this chapter is 'Beti B'.
Aiswarya is like any other lady and what events have happened soon after her pregnancy news...till now :silly:
It is really a shame. Isn't it?

The role of media is actually what you have mentioned, but currently this seems to be missing totally. Nowadays, sensationalism rules! Whatever attracts attention adn increases TRPs, that is shown, making twisted use of people's emotions without concerning themselves about implied harm to subjects in question.
Yes,its true the media doesn't cares what the content they are showing may hurt anyone.
True Ronark, nowadays, the focus is more on showing utter misery and helplessness of unfortunate people victimized by terrorists, unfortunate accidents, rape, murderers etc.

There is seemingly no balance left, if the adulation is high, it is too high, and vice versa!
Media is one of the fear Factor,if someone is Famous. Because,he/she knew that if he/she will face a downfall, media is not going to leave them.
Media now runs at 24/7 days.......if they are not getting any news, they create it.......and the best thing is creating a hype about something or some famous personality......after all its business.....
No our cricketer are also good but they play for a longer time this may cause this event to happen with them they might want a rest.
