I think democracy is the best system if properly implemented. Problems are mainly created by politicians who are misusing the system and spreading wrong messages among the people. They just try to acheive their own goals rather than the reasons why they are selected by common people.

hello manish,
A warm welcome to our group. If you have any doubts, please do post here.
@sandhya but i think democracy is not the best system.in this system if 51% people vote for one candidate and 49% vote for other one thn the the candidate with 51% votes will be chosen.so the choice of 49% is discarded.a system wil be best if it could satisfy every person.democracy works on the principle of majority which is partial in a way
Before I give my views on it,let me extend a warm welcome to our new friend Manish and wish you all the very best!

Going by Indian experience it is, indeed, a tempting proposition but the hard reality is that there is no other alternative to it as the rest has proved to be more imperfect! What is sapping our confidence in it is the kind of imperfection that has crept into the system. It would be more pragmatic to remove this imperfection than discarding it!
I only said, democracy is the best system available, which have many advantages. Like other systems, it also have certain defects as you have noted. Though a party is won according to majority, 99% people have common needs and expectations from their government. They are opting a party only for the belief that the candidates whom they are selecting will surely help them in satisfying their needs, not because different sections have different needs. Let others also express their views.
Firstly, Welcome to Boddunan, Manish hopefully you will have a good time here on this site as it is very interesting.

And I think democracy is best suited for country like ours. And it is only systek that has till date worked well inour country.
democracy is of course the best system.....but in our country corruption and reservation system has ruined the true essence of democracy....
yes, democracy is good and best but it is not performed correctly that is the main problem
democracy is of coursework the best process.....but in our country corruption & reservation process has ruined the true essence of democracy.
The alternative to democracy is dictatorship- fascist, benevolent, tyrannic, military rule etc. There is no guarantee of good governance even in a dictatorship. We witnessed Military dictatorship in Pakistan and Myanamar (Burma). There has been monarchic dictatorship in Nepal.

Democracy ensures that people elect a government and they have a right to participate in running a government. All citizens have a right to vote and also actively participate by joining the political system through political parties.

Whatever be the form of government, governance depends on how people conduct their rights and duties. It is well said that people get the government they deserve. We need to improve quality of our people and not change the system. Change in system will not improve our people and consequently the way we run affairs of our country.
Gulshanji,
Thanks for this wonderful piece of information. It has added many points to substantiate the need for a democratic policy in a country
i think democracy is the best system..however in our country it has been handicapped due to anti-social elements like corruption...yet i feel it is the best way to run a country with so much diversity.
thanks to everyone, for your warm welcome.perhaps our democratic system is not working at his best.may be we need to develop it or i would say there is a need of antivirus to block this virus of corruption from entering in system for which jan lokpal bill is a good start
Manish,

Democracy itself is very good. But it is not properly implemented in this over populated country.According to democracy, even a child has the right to live and express his ideas.
As it is said, there is at least a single loop hole for even the strongest law, same is the case of democracy.
Let all of us accept it forgiving its disadvantages. Also, if we don't break rules, government will need less effort to handle different situations and implement democracy properly.

It is not possible to arrive at a unanimous view on most matters. Hence, if you take decisions by satisfying everyone, you can do nothing. Hence, the most practicable and satisfactory way is to discuss openly and evolve consensus or near consensus on issues and in absence of unanimity decide according to majority. This is exactly how democracy functions.
We have been reading Democracy is a system "By the people, of the people and for the people". The moment the meaning of this simple sentence is realized.....there would be no need of a much better system.
I think there is nothing better than democracy, this is the people who run the governments are weird or good. Replace them, only that will change the system.
Democracy is only in India and this is the best politics process for us. But out bad politicians are not awaking from its benefits which is depriving us from success.
Us is another democratic country with a difference. Public elect a president who appoints secretaries to help him. Also governors of the states are elected by people of that particular state.
