It was okay to make parks and install statues of prominent leaders. But there was no propriety in statues of C.M. and elephants. First the heavy expenses. Now Election commission wants these to be covered so that the ruling party- B.S.P. does not get undue benefit. However, it appears that this order will be counter productive and benefit the ruling party in U.P. more.

Nice decision taken by Election Commission and it is a neutral decision.
Its all so ridiculous, first crores of money was spent erecting these statues and now more than 2 crores are being spent to cover them! It just does not make any sense!
Yes mam money is flooting like a water in these states.14 crores has been finded up to now.
The Election commission decision does not seem very appropriate and effective even if strictly this may be lawful. First, covering of statues will only help the ruling party as such action will make the statues more conspicuous. Secondly, there will be needless expenditure to cover these statues. Thirdly, it is not possible to remove everything that resembles the symbol. To elucidate, hand (congress), cycle (Samajvadi party) cannot be removed as everyone has a hand and many use bicycle for daily movements. Even there are cycle rikshaws. Moreover, there are elephant statues in temples also.
Yes it is sheer waste of money. Recently a very nice cartoon was illustrated on local channel, it showed a beggar lying on road and thinking that please can someone cover me up with blanket!!

I agree with you! If the government really wants to hide all the election symbols then they will first have to hide all the elephants, cycle rickshaws, aeroplanes and so many other things and cut off everyone's hands!  Its such a silly thing to do!
Usually we make statues of great persons who are not alive. to honour them. Isn't it? Then Mayavathi's statue?
They have money and are doing whatever they want. Some people are doing income due to this. So what's wrong.Let them do more statue, etc.
In news i found people covering the elephant status with some cover.

Very true!

Mayawati is one big megalomaniacal woman who needs to assert herself by putting up hundreds of statues.

Those huge amounts of money could have been spent in improving the conditions of her state!

Also, it must be sheer torture to look at her face everywhere you turn on a street, it would have been at least tolerable if she was better looking! Thank goodness I don't live there!
I personally feel the down-trodden section of our society has been brutally exploited by their own leaders. Need I name them?
No Chinmoy, there is no need to name them, there are just so many and so shameless that nothing will make them repent for their deeds!

Needless to say anyone be dalit leaders, Hindu priests, or Chrictian missionaries can exploit only followers. Others will not fall in trap.
Historically speaking some of the Christan Missionaries are known to be exploiting low caste Hindus who were or are exploited by high caste Hindus!
