Lok Pal Bill before cabinet

Lokpal bill may create problems for many hi profile people and this is why everyday new hurdles are created so that bill is not passed.

There is no hurdle as such. Also the bill if passed will make no difference. In fact, there is already adequate provision for dealing with corruption. CVC and CBI are regularly dealing with corruption cases and even very senior officers of central excise, customs, income tax and others are being prosecuted and punished. The CBI, CVC, police, courts all are functioning. Even Lok Pal will not come from heaven. This will be simply an adjustment in existing system.

What lacks is peoples' indifference and inactivity. Subramaniam Swamy has fought the case and is still fighting in2G scam and he is targeting even the Home minister. This is in existing system without Lok Pal. People themselves are willing to bribe for getting their things done, even the wrong things or out of turn favors. If people willingly bribe for their own sake and there is cooperation between bribe giver and taker, any number of Lok Pals will be useless. If Lok Pal is inadequate, team ana will a few years later ask for a Dharam Pal to probe in corruption and inefficiency of Lok Pal.

We have already seen the power of a strong Lok Pal Act in Karnataka where a sitting Chief Minister found himself cooling his heels in the jail! Let our political parties get their acts before hurling plain abuses and resrting to character assassination which would help Anna to become more popular than ever before!

At last, Lok Pal Bill passed by Lok Sabha. It will be difficult to pass this in rajya Sabha owing to numerical deficiency of UPA. The constitutional status of Lok pal could not be approved in Lok Sabha owing to lack of two third majority by UPA.

How strong is the bill? Lalu Yadav appears to be very afraid of this as he says this will be death knell for legislators. Hence, this may be considered a strong bill.

Public support for anna team movement is on decline. The team anna is also surprised on low gathering in Mumbai. Now they are thinking of return to Delhi.

Possibly, the Maharashtians are familiar with Anna. may be they had not much attraction for him. To Delhite, he was a new face. With Gandhi cap and slogans- Bharat mata Ki Jai etc, (these were however irrelevant) and characterization of the movement as 'India's second freedom fight' fooled people. But it is not possible to fool people al the time.
