FDI in retail sector will help the farmers. They will be able to sell to the foreign retail outlets direct without middlemen. Their produce will also not go waste. The consumers may also be benefited. But the middlemen will be at at loss. also the existing retailers will find competition tough and may be adversely affected. However, as the foreign retail shops will be only in very big cities, most retailers in country will not be affected. also, they will not be eliminated even where the foreign retail shops are opened. They will only face some competition. On the whole, FDI is likely to benefit people at large.
Thank you gulshan ji i dont know upto now about this fdi now i had known about this. ;)

F.D.I. means just foreign direct investment. This is in many sectors. The BJP also favored when they were in power. But now in opposition, they are against this. It appears that all favor FDI but the dispute is on percentage.
Gulshan ji can you tell me why the bjp is not supporting this. :( :(
BSP is protesting against the FDI intervention in UP. They call it "anti farmer" movement. Accoring to BSP, FDI will deter farmers right and make them poorer.
According to me FDI is for the development of India. This will make our economy stronger. This should withstand in UP.
It won't be in the interest of neither small farmers nor for that people in general.
gulshan ji, thanks for your valuable information about FDI. I got too many informations.
I would cite a simple example in the early days of TV - we have had several famous Indian brands with a vast pool of local TV mechanics who used to eke out a living repairing these sets. Now do you see them now? These multinationals are so dangerous and crafty that initially they follow a strategy of driving out if not gobbling up the local competitors by offering baits and in the mean time consumers too are treated beneficially with exchange offers and like that before they place themselves in an absolute position to dictate terms. Today in the TV we have very few local brands. I apprehend the same thing is going to happen to roadside garages one day!

Today, Rahul Gandhi seemed backing FDI's intrusion in India.
Fdi i such a sector is veey helpful for the farmers in most cases.

BJP supported FDI in retail during NDA rule led by them. Now while in opposition they are opposing this. The dispute may be about percentage of FDI rather than FDI itself.

FDI will definitely help farmers and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said his government would explore the possibility of implementing the decision on FDI in multi-brand retail through consultations with political parties after the completion of Assembly elections in five states next year.
Farrukhabad is the largest potato growing district in the country. Also one fact came out that around 60% vegetable go waste.

And by FDI's intervention, it will give farmers a chance to sell their vegetables directly to FDI instead of going waste.
