Difference between 'remember' and 'remind'

This is obvious. I have seen this mistakes many a times. Thanks for marking it out.

There is simple difference between the both.Remember means not to forget.Remind means to remind the forgetten thing.

I agree that this is simple difference. But I wrote the post because a member had thanked me for 'remembering' Dr. Rajendra Prasad birthday to members. Obviously, I could not remember Dr. Rajendra Prasad to members. I could only remind them. I could remember myself but not remember to others. i could only remind them.

Again, 'remember' does not mean 'not to forget'. You may forget but still you may remember later when the forgotten thing comes to your memory. 'Remember' is your own mental action. But you remind others. You cannot remember something to others.

REMEMBER = Person doing it themselves
REMIND = Other person making someone else remember.

Remember - recalling
remind - making other to recall

Remember can also be called as not forgotten.

Remind can call as to Remind other about forgotten or not forgotten thing.

I appreciate the effort taken by Gulshan ji in showing the correct usage but i think who ever have done the mistake should know this. It is better to post this different in the thread where the mistake has been done.

You remember yourself but remind others. If you forget something but this flashes in your mind, either by trial or otherwise, this is called remembering. When somebody forgets and you make him remember, this is called reminding.

The word 'Reminder' is derived from 'remind' . when your work is delayed by some office, you send them a letter for your work, this is called 'reminder'.

Remember = events, things happened in past are remembered
remind = you alert others about anything.....
